Last thing they should do is let Xavi decide on any player signed in near future.

Rating shite like Romeu and signing 35 yrs old Lewa and signing countless players with profile that dont play to his sytsem.

Any DM will be another shite signing of some shite player over rated by Xavi that doesnt fit most likely.

Vast majority of players that have looked the best are the ones there before he arrived... MATS, Araujo, Balde, FDJ, Pedri, Dembele can add likes of Gavi to that also.

His contract is out in December this year, so that could benefit us. But if we are after him then surely there are others with a lot more financial power too. Can easily see Brighton or better clubs offer those 10m while we wait it out.

So, are we going to see any free transfers this year? Last few years the rumours started around this time despite the player not signing until the end of the season. This year there are no fresh rumours after loose talks before the season about likes of Ndidi, Thiago, Miranda and Guido.

Agreed. Just saying what the reports are.

If we'll sign anyone this month will probably only be on loan so getting a more proven player in that regard makes more sense than signing 18 yo kid from Argentina who wouldn't perform immediate. And giving Xavi someone who he wants (and more importantly we can actually sign) this way wouldn't have any longterm impact.

Also, "proven player" don't necessarily mean a 30+ yo oldie. Could maybe get someone like Kalvin Phillips or Lo Celso. Probably not but who knows.

We know from reports that Xavi has held interest in Lo Celso, Guido and Aleix Garcia.

Only Guido would be attainable in the winter market I think, though he is someone who should have been targeted before Romeu. Especially with the flow of deals between Betis and Barca.

Still, he is a short term solution and will help defensively but not in ball circulation.

Don't know who Deco would go for, his picks themselves so far seem to be young, unproven and in need in adaption.

Not including Roque in that because that seems to have been a long term but of the whole SD, but the likes of Guler, Moscardo, Darvich, Fresneda.

Can see it being another Mendes cast-off, if anyone, unfortunately.

Isn't Guido still injured and out for like a month or so? Don't think it would make sense signing him even if he's not fit to play when we need him the most.

With Mou reportedly interested in Romeu wouldn't be surprised to see Mendes trying a swap for Renato Sanches or something. Don't think Xavi would want him though.

In other news according to Swedish media we've improved our offer for Lucas Bergvall to 6,5m which is still short of what his club is asking for (9m). Eintracht Frankfurt is apparently our biggest competitor for his services. Could potentially see us striking this deal and loan him so wouldn't need to worry about registering him next season. AFAIK we can't get around Tebas's FFP by just registering him for Barca B anymore.

Not sure what his ceilling is but really reminds me on FDJ in highlights I've seen. So Deco could potentially see a longterm replacement for Frenkie if we decide to sell him in 2-3 years (I expect we'll probably renew his contract this year and deferr some of his wages like we did with MATS before that though). Probably not something that should be our priority right now but at the same time exactly how longterm planning should look like. Something we've not been used to but hopefully will change with Deco.

Santi Gimenez of AS reports that the Deco wants Amadou Onana while Xavi wants a central midfielder and is pushing for Aleix Garcia.

This is AS but then there is no smoke without fire, and this has not been the first time that there has been a difference in direction between the SD and Xavi. What is incredible though is that Xavi would prioritise a midfielder and not defensive midfield.

Garcia has been class this season and if 20m clause is true he could be a cheap player in midfield if needed to cash in on Gavi, Pedri, FDJ or Gundogan.

But Garcia on top of those 4 just feels like more of the same and none of them DMs.

Onana lol. He might dominate a bit in La Liga due to his physicality but he is horrible on the ball and has low football IQ.
Would be a good profile to get for free from your academy but paying money for him would be nuts.

Rumoured to be a 70m ask, with Arsenal also pursuing. So we couldn't even acquire him if we tried.
