Hello all!
I've not been so active as of late, but I was thinking to create this poll/tournament to find out which club teams in the last 15 years is considered the best. Of course, one could say that the opinion of BarcaForum could be a little bit biased But I hope that this topic will be of interest for some of you and it could lead to some interesting discussions
Rules of the tournament are fairly simple:
-All games are home and away, except for the final. Of course you don't have to predict an exact score for a two-legged tie, rather than just to predict who would come on top.
-The timeframe of ~15 years years is arbitrary. I started counting from 2005/06 onwards, just because that was the time I started following football. The last eligible season would be of course 2022/23.
-From this timeframe I picked the 32 club teams, which, in my opinion, were the most successful, based on the titles they won and how dominant they were.
-Then I ranked those teams and created a bracket, so that the better ranked teams would have an "easier" path to the following rounds (although as you can see, easy is definitely not the most appropriate word )
-The teams I chose were most of the times the "peak" of a particular era of a club. For example PSG 2019/20 would be the peak of the Neymar/Mbappe PSG etc. However, for the eligibility itself as well as for the ranking within the 32 teams format, I also took the 3 year run including the peak season. For example, 2011/12 Real was the peak of Mourinho's 2010-2013 Real Madrid.
-I tried not to include different iterations of the same team, so that the bracket would have some variety. For example, I included only 2016/17 Real Madrid to represent the 2015-2018 Zidane threepeat side, as I felt that the starting 11 as well as the bench mostly stayed intact.
-This is where bias comes in, as for example I included 2008/09 Barca and 2010/11 Barca as two different teams, or 2013/14 and 2015/16 Atletico etc, as I felt that although these teams were similar, there were enough differences in personell or tactics to separate them. That said, there are not many cases of "doubles".
So for the first post, I would like to present the first 8 ties of the round of 32. As there is no in-forum option to create a poll with multiple questions, I'll just type them and you may post your opinion normally. So, here are the first ties:
Manchester City 2022/23 vs. PSG 2013/14
Real Madrid 2011/12 vs. Chelsea 2011/12
Barcelona 2005/06 vs. Manchester City 2017/18
Barcelona 2018/19 vs. Bayern 2012/13
Liverpool 2018/19 vs. BVB 2012/13
Chelsea 2007/08 vs. Real Madrid 2013/14
AC Milan 2006/07 vs. Juventus 2016/17
Chelsea 2016/17 vs. Barcelona 2010/11
