Date of birth: 08.02.1992(22)
Nationality: Dutch
Club: Feyenoord Rotterdam
Height: 1.86m(6 ft 1 in)

He's been linked to Manchester United as one of the dutch players Van Gaal want to bring to the club along with being linked to FC Barcelona albeit by the usually unreliable Diario SPORT.

He is listed as a LB at transfermarkt. Is he a natural CB or LB?

He can play in both positions and both positions are his natural positions I think. However, I would say he is better as a Cb, but that's just my opinion.

I do not think he is ready for Man Utd at the moment, but he has a lot of potential.

I am impressed by his physical strength and marking abilities. He seems to be rusty in his build-up play though. Not ready for us yet, however this is one of these players that can turn out to be a worldclass defender later. He should be around 10M EUR? Definitely worth the try imo midst we get a proven CB and a new RB.

EDIT: The one that really impressed has been Stefan de Vrij (?) though. He is very composed on the ball and has good passing ability. Seems to lack a bit of physical strength, but that is something that can be done by intense training. Seems to be decently fast too and has a strong challenge in him. I would buy him. He will be a big player, I am sure of that. Really good defender imo. Then again, might be just my personal opinion. I know you have to be careful with players from the Dutch league (see Affelay), but I think this guy has lots of potential.

I like de Vrij. He's got great raw qualities for a defender. The thing is that Van Gaal seems to be migrating his Dutch players into United according to rumors (De Vrij/Indi and Daley Blind). Lot of good squad additions for them and a coach light years more competent than Moyes.

If United choose Indi over de Vrij then I would definitely see him as a good option for deputy CB signing for Barca, he can't be the only one though as we need someone who can walk into the starting lineup.

Edit: Just read a quote from 3 years back where de Vrij said his dream was to play for Barcelona. No interest from us right now but it's a shame that we go around chasing the Marquinhos's of the world when we obviously will not get them while ignoring a cheaper talent that we can develop ourselves.

I am from rotterdam and i am a big feyenoord fan so i have seen bruno martins indi play week in week out for about 3 years straight. Martins indi is definetily no barca material at this moment and doubt he will ever be too be honest.. he is very prone too foolish errors and is not very good at buildup play.. if we are really looking for a young dutch defender with a high potential i would say take a look at kongolo rom feyenoord.. much younger and alot more talent and potential. Sometimes i wonder if our scouts actually watch and follow players closely or if they just watch world cup games/international games and youtube.

Can you tell me more about Kongolo? Also how do you rate de Vrij?

Thanks for the insight, man. It's much needed around here.

Instead of De Vrij or Martins Indi, I would try to sign Terence Kongolo from Feyenoord, better footballing/build-up qualities and can play as both CB and LB, plus he has great pace. He's very much like Abidal in that sense. I also think he is more talented than the other Feyenootd defenders and that he has a higher ceiling.

He's in the World Cup squad for the Netherlands as well.

He's certainly more talented than Indi, but we should focus on a central defender who's ready to start for us. In a few years Bartra and (maybe) Ié will be top defenders so I don't really know where Kongolo would fit in. I'd only sign him is he's cheap and if we can loan him out a few years

He won't cost a lot because Feyenoord still needs money to pay their debts. A fee of 8-10 million would immediately seal the deal, but you might be able to get him for less. As long as De Vrij, Mathijsen and Martins Indi are around he will be a benchwarmer. I would buy him straight away and play him in the B-team for a year and then loan him out (maybe even straight loan, no B-team).

This is what I have a hard time understanding: Why does our club focus on the big targets like David Luiz and Marquinhos when there are hundreds of other cheaper alternatives? I'm 100 % sure that Marquinhos isn't that much better than Indi. It's very frustrating for fans to see the club chasing these big targets when it can always go for these low profile players.

This guy is 22 already and he's nowhere near to be a starter for Barca. There are much better and younger players that we should go for.

Bruno Martins Indi will probably never reach the required level to play for us. Kongolo might, but he's still a raw talent, so it's hard to say. I agree with the Abidal-comparison.

I like De Vrij better than Martins Indi, because he's more composed and more intelligent in terms of distribution and positioning. BMI looked an awesome prospect 2 years ago, but I don't think he became much better after that; his progress seems to be stalling somewhat. A transfer abroad would do him good, as long as he gets chances to play. De Vrij is rumoured to sign with Lazio, by the way.
