His exact words were in the press conference before Almeria:

"The fans should know that the situation is very difficult and that we will struggle to be competitive economically. We are not in the same conditions as other clubs with better financial fair play. But this doesn't mean that we won’t try to achieve our goals."

Obviously he didn't say it literally, but that's what he meant. His overall vibe in the press conference was like he was already looking for excuses why he wouldn't win any trophies next season.
The point is, we didn't need to compete economically with other teams, as we had already a squad good enough to win the treble, as Flick shows this season. Xavi didn't really trust in the current players and lost the trust of Laporta in return.

So yeah, you can translate the meaning with simplier words: "Don't expect too much next season, because we're broke". Flick came, said he loved the squad from the first day, didn't moan once about the financial situation and the results we see today.

Nah that's a big ass stretch ma dude, when he literally said it doesn't mean we won't try to achieve our goals.

That's like someone telling you 1+1 = 2 and you're like nah what you really meant is it equals 1.8.

The only reason to bring it up is to use it as an excuse. Common logic. Every team tries to achieve its goals, that's a buzzword (sentence). If he would have trusted the team to go all the way, he wouldn't have even mentioned it and simply said:
"I don't care that we don't have money, we have already a team good enough to win everything".
It's day and night difference between Flick's words about our situation and the team and Xavi's during this press conference. Even Laporta thought it that way, felt betrayed and fired him only because of these words.
It was clearly meant as an excuse for the next season.

Not advancing would be a massive, massive failure. For all the bravado under Flick we would be at Xavi's worst League average (points) and a QF exit against an average team. No excuses.

True. Pressure is huge on us in this tie and Dortmund have nothing to lose.

Barcelona is joint biggest favorite to win it all at 7/2 and Dortmund is dead last with 50/1.

It means our fear factor is rising fast this season. Simply need to confirm this new status of the club under Flick, and prove it is not just a fluke.

We are not seen as an underdog anymore and we need to cope with the pressure of being one of the best teams in the world again.

There is a chance the players are not yet ready to deliver under this pressure. Many players in this squad are not used to playing semifinals in the Champions League. For the vast majority it will be a career first.

Not a fluke to play great football in vast majority of matches. Not a fluke to be optimistic about your club's future either.

Unless, you are Xavi. Then you get to play shit and talk about having to be realistic and how dire our financial situation is. Directly implying we can't compete because we can't spend much.

Xavi: "I repeat, the club's situation is very difficult. We do not have the ideal situation to compete in the best conditions, I repeat, this is the club's situation at the moment and fans must understand that. "

Well, this is a new level. We're talking about much higher pressure than in any previous match under Flick. Last season we collapsed in the return leg with PSG. It is very important to make the next step this time.

There you go ahead trying to turn 1+1 into 1.8.

He said what he said, there is no need to try to break it down any further.

Our finances aren't what they use to be, we can't compete with other clubs financially, but that doesn't mean we won't try to achieve our clubs.

All pretty standard stuff.

Buzzwords? Thats all coaches do is you buzz words.

Xavi has said more gloomy things than that, find that quote to try andmake your point because that certainly isn't it.

I've heard flick say similar things about our finances, but we will compete with what we have.

The season is balanced on a knife edge right now.

We are literally on the same points we had last season after 30 games, but we are 4 points ahead, says a lot about Madrid but I don't care, we have an advantage there, but its obviously not insurmountable.

CL is K.O football so anything can happen.

I just want us to win, 1 big title as I've been saying all season.

If we end with 3 it will be glorious, but there is also a world where we end with 0.

Copa I don't care about, but since the final is against Madrid, we can't lose that.

2/3 titles are Barca’s to lose, only CL remains open (5 matches) for a treble of trebles

2 Clasicos will determine 2 titles with a potential 3rd deciding the treble

I do not want to read the recent pages and if somebody already told that...

Flick was assistant coach for a short time when Kovac was still player in Salzburg. And at Bayern Flick was assistant coach from July to November behind Kovac until he took over and won the treble...

Toni Tapalovic is your assistant coach - his brother Filip is now assistant coach with Dortmund...

Schlotterbeck out for the rest of the season.
Will not accept any less than a 2 advantage win, but it should really be 3 or even 4.
4-1 is my pick, 4-0 if we nail on the press/counter press and have a little luck.
4 goals scored to make a big comeback, it is a big game after all.
