This team is literally brain dead. Up 4-2 setting up for an easy return leg. Hey let's make it hard and go there tied 4-4.... stop playing the damn high line with a lead. We can still win but damn it's concerning all it takes is a couple miss timed offside traps to screw us.

Expected goals: Barcelona (3.81) 4-4 (1.61) Atletico Madrid

So fucking frustrating....

Agreed. Team deserved to win today.

Wouldn't sweep our mistakes under the carpet though. Some players do not show up concentrated and some have troubles defending.

Was a very entertaining match overall and props to Atletico and their team spirit to get back into the game too

It did. But thats his style.

His fault is not playing the high line, but taking out players who maintain and recover possesion in the midfield, so the high line doesnt become an issue.
The moment we lost any semblence of control of the game, our high line became as issue.

We create so many chances and goals because of the High line, and ultra aggressive nature of our game. And we mitigate threat that comes from the high line by having palyers who can control, retain and recover possesion easily.

I dont want him to change his style.

that's all fine but when tou lose control if the game, you need to sit deeper and defend like a proper team, not use a tactic that works when you do have control and want to reclaim it fast everytime you lose it.
The high line serves our possession game but is catastrophic when it's time to defend. its a bad defensive tactic and will be badly exposed if not moderated.

Can somebody explain why this team can only defend when they get a red card and are 10 men?
We need the tactical option to set back and defend if we are ahead.
Araujo would be a class better in the normal defense process than inigo, cubarsi or inigo.

The philosophy is fine. But sometimes when you're 4-2 up with 10 minutes to go against a strong opponent, you have to be conservative and solidify the result.

Even Pep and Klopp(the most progressive managers) do that sort of thing. Pep tries to make his defense more compact and keep the ball, passing it around aimlessly as a defensive mechanism in these scenarios.

Flick is dogmatic with his system and in these situations, it's just plain dumb and naive. No one is asking him to park the bus. People are just asking him to be a bit more conservative in the last few minutes in these sort of games. Instead Flick makes it end to end and the other team still always have a shot. Slot just kills the game in these situations.
