messi is blessed with better footballing talent and a better team in barcelona. you can't have it all, and for years during our most dominant period (08-2012) neither did cristiano.

Luck shifts. For example, in the Germany Argentina game, the closest chance to score outside the goal was a 5m header from Howedes which hit the post. That was luck. Also, Gignac's chance was pure luck as well, but so was that freekick from Portugal which hit the post.

Luck comes and goes. Real was unlucky in 2012 to not play the final vs Chelsea. They were better than Bayern over 2 legs.
