Damn thought Erling would easily overtake Cristiano considering he is playing for such a dominant City-side 😳 we have to show respect for young Cristiano, what a beast he was πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ”₯

At nearly 40 he is still competing against the animals of the new generation :pique:

You should know by now that the only person who can break Cristiano Ronaldo's records is Cristiano Ronaldo :pique:

It's funny that guys like Rassvet go on about how 'alpha' this guy is (lol) and how confident/arrogant he is, when his 'arrogance' is clearly a front for his rampant insecurity about both his looks and his football ability. He's putting on an act and probably deluding himself deep down even.

Not even hating on him, just sad to see that a formerly great player cannot accept there's been 6-7 better players in history.

Well in terms of goat debate, where does he rank? He might play for two more years or so but obviously his real fingerprints have already been printed in terms of his legacy. He wont win or do anything significant anymore. But... he is Real Madrid`s all-time top-scorer, Champions League`s all-time top-scorer, generally speaking THE top-scorer in football`s history. He has five champions leagues, several league titles in different leagues, one Euro, several man of the match performances in top-tier matches and of course... five Ballon`dors. He was at the very top for about fifteen years. So how good was he really? Where does he rank?

I think it`s obvious that in terms of technical skills or being (as many a football enthusiasts say) being "naturally gifted", he was never amongst the absolute top tier. Messi, Maradona, George Best, the original Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar and many others where much more better at ball at their respective feet and doing dribbling, playmaking and what have you. What Cristiano did have though was outstanding athleticism and work-rate. He is arguably the best header in football`s history, had exceptional pace, had incredibly freekicks and long-distance shooting (in his prime) and could finish with both of his feet incredibly clinically. His work-rate and ambitition meant that he was never fullfilled. He continued to score and win and remain hungry. His club career is arguably the greatest of all time. His time with Portugal was also magnificent.

Where does he rank? For me, Messi is number one. I would say Maradona is number two. Pele? If we are all honest, no one ever saw Pele play. No one here on this forum, not any one of those pundits who claim he is the best, there is no real footage, just the three World Cups and the crazy goal-tally which he achieved in a piss-poor Brazilian league. Brazilian Ronaldo, as mentioned above, was indeed the more gifted, more of a one-man-army type of a player who could produce much more "magic" than Cristiano could but his prime was very short and his career (club-wise that is) was rather poor.

I think Cristiano is easily a top-10 player, but it gets difficult to separated him from the Messis, Maradonas, Peles, Zidanez, R9s, Cruyffs, Beckenbauers, Bests and co. What do YOU think?
To be fair there's plenty of footage of full games of Pele online if you go searching for it.

As for Cristiano Ronaldo, I'd have him anywhere from 6th to 8th best ever - with the higher being me comparing him favourably on a good day. As you say, there's been loads of guys more talented than him but didn't achieve as much for whatever reason.

I do have some sympathy with Don on here's claim that he's not a top 10 player of all time. I think if you go by pure natural ability, he has a lot, but nowhere near many players of all time who were genius-level talents. But when you begin to incorporate other parameters - goalscoring, hard work, athleticism, off-the-ball movement, career stats, trophies, longevity - those bump him up a bit higher. As I say though, in terms of pure natural affinity with a football I'd have guys like Michael Laudrup, Romario, Platini, Iniesta, Zico above him easily. That doesn't include guys considered the best ever either. However, Ronaldo has some of those other contributing things they don't have.

What I am saying is it's not just about talent but also application of talent. I think the guy has earned his place in the top 10 and for his more extreme fans I can see top 5.

But when people laughably try to shoehorn him into the Messi-Maradona-Pele debate that is far too much for me and a clear sign of the celebrity worship that he benefits from. He's nowhere near that level.

Like I say, for me he's about the 8th best player of all time all things considered. That's an incredible achievement but he's such a deluded narcissist he'd see 8th as an insult.

It's just that I have saw his clueless fans say stuff lie 'anything outside of top 2/3/5 is an insult and proves you're deluded' which highlights A) their creepy infatuation with him and B) their vast ignorance and lack of knowledge (as well as disrespect) of the history of the game.

2-0 win from Al Nassr yesterday, Piolo-football looks better than Casto-football so far but he has also Angelo who makes the offense better.

Very good performance from Cristiano and ofc a goal again, someone should tell this lad he will be 40 soon - sensational man ^^

Enjoy it lads:

Randomly skipped about. Lol at the attempted pass at 3.48 and the mess up at 4.05. Passes like 3.48 are the difference between he and Messi - Messi pulls off that pass 99.9 percent of the time. It isn't even a hard pass.

I am sure he did some good stuff too but can't be bothered watching the rest.

It is decent to still be scoring goals just over four months before the big four-o, that's fair, but remember the dismal standard of the league. He's semi-retired.

Edit: just saw 9.53. Terrible attempt at a ball on his left foot for the 'two-footed player'. Proves what I have always said about his left foot - his left foot is good in one situation - driving and shooting a ball at goal with his laces. He's never been strong at passing with it, or playing deft through balls or lofts.

He should be lofting that over the head of the defender but he hasn't got the ability to do that on his left foot. This guy really has always been a mediocre passer.

There's nothing special about that general play in that video mate. Of course he scored two goals (one of which was a mishit cross) so that's all his fans care about, but the general play is average.

Apart from all that, I know you like the guy, so I am pleased watching him is giving you joy and I don't wanna piss on your chips. But you did post the video so you invited analysis.

An excellent post and I completely agree.
