He’s absolutely infuriating.
Overly cautious and shows no sense of wanting to actually coach or develop players. Alena, Dembele, Malcom, Vidal, Semedo have all been horribly mismanaged. Lenglet would’ve been in that list too, if not for the injury to Umtiti. All of the above spend extended periods on the bench, or are hooked at the first sign of trouble.Whilst others like Suarez, Pique, Roberto, Rakitic can repeatedly put in piss poor performances without any sort of repercussion.
He doesn’t rotate the squad effectively, and given the quality he has at his disposal, he has no excuse. Certain players are marginalised, and are given no real continuity, whilst others are run into the ground.
He also has an infuriating habit of playing people out of position. Coutinho made a name for himself as a LWF/LAM - Valverde initially played him on the right, neutralising his skill set. He’s done the same thing with Malcolm - his very limited playing time is always on the left flank - this despite the whole world knowing his game is based around cutting in from the right. Perhaps Malcom, wasn’t his choice - but at least give him an opportunity in the position where he has proved successful.
His subs always seem pre-determined as well. Regardless of who is playing well, it’s invariably the same players who are always subbed off. His in game management is sorely lacking.
Arthur is literally the only shining light under his tenure so far, and how much credit does EV really deserve for that?
I’d seriously love Tuchel, Klopp, Jardim, Sarri (despite his propensity to trust experience over youth), Poch, Naglesmann etc. I’m convinced they’d all have the side playing MUCH better football, whilst maintaining the same level of success.
Valverde has NO cojones whatsoever, and that simply isn’t acceptable when managing a club like Barcelona.
