Ernesto Valverde

His situation reminds me of Laurent Blanc.

Blanc went 4 years without a job after he left PSG back in 2016 even though he was a pretty respectable coach himself and was linked with a number of different clubs when he was jobless but never got anything more than Al-Rayyan job in Qatar after four years of sitting on the sidelines.

I have to assume he's probably waiting for a CL/EL level club to open up probably in Spain. I know he's been linked as a short gap at United and Leeds in England but at his age, he probably wants to stay in Spain more than likely now.

With all due respect to Blanc but you can't compare him with Ernesto who made Real madrid look like a segunda division team.

Is Valverde not rated by the elite Footballing circles and board members of big clubs? It baffles how he hasn't taken up a job.

City, Bayern, pool 😂😂😂.
Imagine Liverpool hiring valverde 😂😂😂.

He may get the Spain job, that's about it, because they don't have any better alternatives.

i rate EV very highly as a coach but i really dont think english football would suit him, and mostly because i doubt his english is very good (though I admit this is speculative)

his best work has been and will be (if he coaches again) in spain

Ernie is a Marcelino level manager.

Good, but not great.

Would put Lopetegui in the same category.

i find it really odd that the messi supporters here dont really rate EV

im curious: why? my guess is that diminishing EV's achievement suggests that the successes we had under his tenure were (really, ultimately, in the last instant) due to messi, whose last (elite) years coincided with EV

am i correct or are there other reasons?

Messi (and Suarez) has (have) proven himself under every type of manager in his prime.

EV hasn't proven himself yet that he can win big titles without Messi and other stars like Suarez.

That's all there is to it. When EV gets a job like AM or United or Chelsea and wins a league with them, he will have proved himself as an elite manager.

All of these (Ernie, Marcellino, Lopetegui) are under Emery imo.

Ernie was a Yerry Mina masterclass away from a unbeaten season

A Dembele sitter away from a treble

Let's look at Pep's early career

His first UCL win we lucked out vs Chelsea after they dominated us

We lucked out vs arsenal

Lucked out next time we saw Arsenal with an unfair red

Football is fine margins end of the day EV had to deal with the expectations of winning a treble for the club
