Also, congrats to Italy. Second final this year I didn't bother watching after the CL final.

Thankfully NT football is over now (well, there is still Olympic tournament which I'm actually quite looking forward to) and club football returns soon. First preseason game for Barca in 9 days, can't wait!

Messi983 it was a video of some english fans beating poor Italians. And the news one was killed. Obviously fake, thank God.

We are that embarrassing we even fight ourselves let alone the opposition fans.

England reached the final. Were unbeaten in games played. Southgate strategy worked til 25-30 mins from start, Southgate a genius and Italy on the rocks.
But:
1. Defensive line up failed.
2. Substitutions were too late.
3. Penalty takers wrong selection.

I wouldn't call Southgate a genius. He has done good work but we need to be more offensive and take the game to the opposition. We are too cautious in our approach, he'll be in charge for the 2022 World Cup anyway so just hope we can play with a more entertaining brand of football.

England can be proud of their tournament. They were the 3rd best performing team in the tournament and only lost the final on penalties.

Their trajectory reminds me of France circa 2016. They are still on the way up and I wouldn't put it past seeing them reach another final over the next 2 competitions. Winning will come down to a little luck, a little more experience and a little more huevos.

I think England made the final with a bit of luck both in games and with refereeing decisions. They also had a BIG advantage playing at home most of the time.

Their squad isn't brilliant, but it's decent enough. The star seems to be Southgate, who took them to the final by going against the consensus a lot of the time, often playing a very defensive minded system that worked initself, marginally winning the games. His decisions would be slaughtered if England went out earlier, which they could've easily done. But I don't think they could've arrived at the final playing much closer to how the fans wanted them to play.

With Southgate, or a similarly strong coach, I can see them having another lucky run in a tournament maybe, just as I could see 10-15 other teams have one like that. But I don't see England being top 5 right now, and I don't see them being on the way up really, I think Southgate just does the best of the material available, and although the material might be slightly better in a few years, they'll still be behind a lot of nations.

Could be wrong but isnt Rashford bad at pens in pressure situations? Subbing him only for the shootout was stupid imo, he and sancho should have come much earlier.

He's good at penalties imo. From the top of my head, this is the most high pressure situation that he faced

vs PSG (CL 18/19 round of 16, the winning penalty in the 90th minute)
vs Colombia (WC 18 round of 16, penalty shootout)
vs Villareal (Europa final 2021, penalty shootout)
vs Man City (PL, don't remember which season)

He did have a weird run up though vs Italy ngl
