He's held up the ball well and shown good pieces of skill in possession but he simply is not the type of player to act as a ball carrier in midfield. He's best as a somewhat retreated #9 (playing as a striker but not quite stuck right in line with the opposition CB's). He shouldn't be played in that #10 position, his future at Barca is as a goalscorer.
