FC Barcelona's Wage Bill

A lot have been made about our wage bill and how great this board really is at when it comes to signing players and handing them out big payouts and I don't think people really realize how big this problem is. Especially when they want certain players who underperform or aren't good enough to stay around for forever.

Barca have several players who aren't performing well or are good enough anymore, yet they are on high wages. We then struggle to sell them because our board and management have the negotiating skills of a baboon and cannot sell them the prospect of playing for a club like Barca.

Instead we hand them out high wages which end being a problem, as those players turn out to not do well enough or aren't really the best players to sign in the first place.

That's why we cannot sign players for a lot of money. I mean, just take a look at this. How can you afford to sign Verratti, a great RB, and a great RW if you're paying this much in wages? It's not even an MSN problem since all clubs have 3-4 players who earn money on the level of our players. Cristiano is the top earner in RM with Ramos and Bale earning approx. as much as Neymar and Suarez.

This is why we cannot go out and sign Verratti, Dembele, and let's say Bellerin in one transfer window or before 1st July.

The Board try to do some tricking and mixing and cross their fingers that they sell some of the players they are overpaying, but usually it doesn't happen.

This is precisely why we desperately need to sell certain players like Arda, Vermaelen and more deadweight or underperforming players in the squad. This is exactly why you consider selling Gomes for 35m because he's getting paid a lot of money yet is underperforming and doesn't seem to have the mentality to succeed at Barca.

This is insanity. You cannot keep our players who underperform or aren't good enough forever, because then it puts serious strains on your budget, and you might end up not signing all the pieces you need to compete better for the biggest trophies + plan for the future.

Unfortunately it doesn't help that the club is held hostage by people who claim to be business savvy, but actually are a bunch of fucking idiots.

I knew we were 1st on that list but didn't know we were that far away from the others.

Kept saying for years that we need to take a leaf from Real Madrid book and explain our new signings that coming to Barca is for glory, not your big paycheck.

Just the wages, or not.

Even now, the club had to take a lot of caution while renewing some of our players because they absolutely cannot get over that 70% limit of our total revenue.

So on the level of Real Madrid, yet still with a worse overall squad.

Not better FBs, not better midfielders, not better backups.

Well that squad won the treble then a double so not sure was too much worse than Real even if they won a CL.

Can say this year that the squad was worse. Not as much worse as is made out on here at times though.

Added more players with more than decent wages since then. Increased again.

Of course and can judge it when it comes out but no way was Barcas treble winning squad worse than Real who won nothing. Dont even think Real were better the next season either.

Also keep in mind these are total wages including non-football sections. Most of other big teams don't have also a basketball, handball,... teams at our level.

According to official club reports sporting expenditure over revenue in 2014/15 season were at 73% (but at still healthy 66% only for football team) and that was in the treble year when players got around 40-50M in bonuses. For 2015/16 season total expenditure/revenue were at 69% and for football team at 63%.
