For a guy with loads of talent and a lot of press-resistance he hasn't half fucked his career. It's a shame.
tbf he had 2 options originally: Barca or PSG. A Barca in decline or a waste of space team like PSG. Flick is also the first top manager he's played under unless you consider Ernie top. His next career decision: stay at Barca on big money or join Tent peg and his dutch circus.

Yeah true. You'd think he'd have fit in at Barca like a glove though. Fair point that he hasn't had many great head coaches to learn from.

I don't really know where he goes from here. I am expecting he will go to United when his contract runs out, as they seem to be the popular destination for players in decline (though INEOS might change that) and they have always had an affinity for Dutch players (even before Tent Man, they had guys like RVN, RVP, Stam and so on). It does seem like the natural place for him to go.

One thing is for sure - he should really be doing a lot better than he is. With his level of talent he could be one of the best in Europe. I don't follow Barca anywhere near as much as the actual fans of the club on here, so I have no real idea why his career has stagnated as much as it has. Assume injuries, not being professional, greed for money etc.

Tbh, it’s because he really isn’t that talented as many think he is. In defense he’s meh and in offense he sometimes carries the ball alright but than makes a 2m sideway pass - dude should make throughballs like a mf, serve them assists up on a silver plater… yet he doesn’t really do shit tbh. Either a short sideway pass or runs 10m forward and makes a short sideway pass. Dude, wtf - 25M for that bullshit?
Look at his stats, he scores like 2-3 goals in all competitions and has like 2-3 assists in all competitions every season. His so called defending is Segunda level. He’s a fraud, that’s it - we better give him an ultimatum in the summer, tired of his bs.

He's just a scapegoat.

Folk here blame him for his wages that are not his fault. Also lot of fake news about what his actual salary is that his haters believe. We are still paying him deferred wages because at the time he wanted to help the team and now people blame him for not wanting to do that again, lol. He doesn't owe anything to this finished club. Hopefully will run out his contract and then go to City/Liverpool and win multiple CLs there.

Also, he was arguably our best midfielder when we won La Liga. It's clear he's struggling with injury now but if fully recovered I believe he'll become important player again.

Ronald Koeman (manager of the Dutch NT): "For both Frenkie and Virgil, it's better at this moment to leave the training camp. This decision was made on medical grounds, with the players' well-being as the top priority."

So the ancle stuff is still not fixed.

Scapegoat? NO. But you're living in the past, with FFF constantly having some injuries, they're more like statists then footballers at this point for around 40 million a year.

It wouldn't even matter if they were all Messi before, because they can't show it on the pitch.

Dude, his wage is 25M. Deferred wages are what they, we can't ask for him to just give them up - that's cool, I'm cool with that. I'm not blaming him for shit up until now tbh.
Now everybody and their mother can see his quality, he's not WC and never will be. He will never carry a big club or be decisive. He's just an alright midfielder for the better teams in Europe - which isn't bad, but it isn't 25M good either.
So what now comes in to play is that we maybe want him to renew (which I'm not totally against), but we deem his market value to be more like 10-15M a year. He doesn't want to sign that because he thinks he's worth more - that's fucking delusional though. He can ask his agent to go look for a better deal, I'll eat my hat if he comes back with an offer above 15 lol. So if he doesn't want to renew, we at least want to get 40ish million for him - but if he KNOWS he wont get close to 15 from anybody and bigger clubs comes asking for him and he just shoots them down... than he's just fucking with us and two can play that game.

Fair enough. A range of views on him here. You guys all know better than me being actual Barca fans.
