Gerardo "Tata" Martino

I am not sure what we are discussing here, the guy himself wasn't interested in the job b4 the end of the season ,he was always the front runner for replacing Sabella and I think even if the management put faith in him he would probably ask to leave to take over the NT

Tata Martino to Messi (last year): "I know you are the boss here, the owner. I know that if you want you phone the president and I am fired, but please, it is not necessary to show it every day". [ElPeriodico]

The hell?

Are you seriously believing that? Wasn't Tata also appointed by Messi? People need to stick to one story :D

If that is true, he would have been fired already in March-April.

That quote look like written by JamDav or someone similar. Fabricated as hell, not even funny. For the ones who actually believing that shit, Tata is still coaching Messi in the NT. And guess what? He kept him as the captain.

I am going to go ahead and say that Tata did allright with us.We rocked the first half of the season. In the second half the whole team fell apart which he tried to control but could not.Neymar was amazing in the first half of the season.Turned shit in the second after his injury and transfer saga, not his fault.Cesc was on god mode in first half, became shit in the second. Not his fault again. He was not a world class coach by any means but something changed in the second half and we lost it all and it was not tata.Except using cesc as false 9 over and over and using double pivot vs sociedad he did not do much wrong in the first half of the season.Apart from that we played well in the first half and some of his notable achievements were outclassing pelligrini and ancellotti.I remember when messi had the injury and without him we did extremely well which neither I nor most of the people would have expected. Not to mention we were struck by key injuries in the second half. Not to mention we did not have VV and 2 proper CB to start the cope del rey final and messi walked the entire match. Not to mention he took us to the last day of la liga where we lost to a false disallowed goal. Not to mention we lost to atletico who are the most difficult team to break and score. Was he a WC coach? No.Did he deserve to be sacked?NO.Even mou went trophyless in his first season but now look.Barca is the most difficult club to adapt to as a player as well as a manager.

As a coach u are forced to play possesion , tiki taka in Barcelona. Tata was forced to give up his philosophie in 2nd half of the Season, which ultimately was his downfall.

Tata was fine, got the team early, with no real summer prep and no transfers and he played two finals. Playing two games with the trophy in stake is something we won't be smelling this year with clueless Lucho. His Barca played 2x better than Lucho's team with 0 money invested in transfers. If that doesn't prove he's superior to Lucho nothing will.

True. I think he did a good job here considering how late he was brought in to replace Tito and it was really just luck separating us from potentially two titles (Neymar's shot on the post in injury time in the CDR final and Messi's wrongly disallowed goal vs Atletico). I didn't really mind him trying to alter our playing style by adding more directness and counter-attacking, because it's fine to have an alternative when things aren't going our way with plan A. Of course, he wasn't perfect (e.g. BBQ grill parties before games during the last third of the season), but I really think he'd learn from his mistakes, if he were here this season. It's easy to look back in hindsight, but even then, I'd prefer Tata stayed rather than Lucho taking over.
