Gila fluffs way too many big shots with his feet for me.

Nolan, you make a solid point about there never being "another Pippo" - but Macheda seems a good bet to be one of the players who comes closest to his achievements. including relentless abuse from people who don't like him/his club.

Thing is, Meta, Macheda hasn't exactly been lighting anything up at Samp so far. Granted, it's Samp but still. I don't agree with your assessment of the guy. Is he better than Gelatino? Possibly. Has he shown flashes of being really good? Yes. But he hasn't consistently delivered yet.

Macheda so far is a less talented Super Mario , i agree with Kellie here he showed nothing but his goal in the EPL 2 years ago or something
Pippo is a legend for his goals no doubt i'm not saying they will replace him ..but the closest to a pure poacher IMO is Gilardino ( hate him )

Macheda is no where near the level of Inzaghi - or where Inzaghi was at his prime.

Gio is spot on.

I also think people under rate the ability of Inzaghi at his prime too. Not only was he a machine in front of goal but his link up play was often underrated and his mentality and character - important traits in football - was immense.

The biggest difference between both Pippo and Pazzini/Gilardino is the latter two have much more strength. Pazz has more skill too but he's typically shit when he relies on it instead of playing for tap ins.

Gilardino is more talented..the problem is he's mentally weak and inconsistent. If he wasn't so damn inconsistent he wouldn't be such a liability.

yeah from what I've heard he's not done well at Samp. but then Samp had their heart ripped out in January when Pazzini and Cassano both left. bit much asking a poacher to deliver in that sorta environment. I mean Pippo was amazing for Juve and Milan (and that one season for Parma), hardly sides that struggled to create opportunities for him, y'know? at United, a side who create chances and dominate games with a high level of frequency, Macheda's shown a knack for making things happen.

and last season.

and this season.

U make it sound like he scored a bundle not just 4 goals in couple of years
So SAF went and bought Pepe and fishing for a striker in the Summer cause ?
A- he trust Macheda
B - he know he won't make it

U know SAF.. once you are loaned out it means he won't feature again for United

I'm all for a young Italian superstar , and i hoped for the kid but he disappointed me ..

Or they turn out to be world beaters and take an underdog team to semi finals of the world cup. SAF is the biggest hit and miss with strikers and goal keepers.

Not refuting your comments but just sayin'.

Although I wouldn't blame him for Veron, the biggest world deciever in the world

Then again I hated Veron a lot.

last minute winner vs. Aston Villa in crucial must-win match.

late winner vs. Sunderland in crucial must-win match.

late spark (made it 1-2) vs. Chelsea in crucial must-win match, a title-decider in fact. finished 1-2.

late spark (made it 1-2) vs. Aston Villa when side seemed dead & buried. finished 2-2.

all massively important goals. the first two were title winning goals. the third was in a match that, had United won, would have won them the title. he'd probably have scored more were it not for injury woes.

all goals were when he came off the bench, as most of his appearances have been too.

he's had a couple of big assists too. the kid hasn't scored loads, sure, but he's scored big goals. hence my optimism.

who's Pepe?

rumour is Macheda is arrogant and lazy, which is why he fell out of favour with Fergie. with Rooney moving to #10, though, there could well be a spot for Macheda in the team. especially as he's a different kind of forward to Hernandez and Berbatov. he may well have burned his bridges though, hence the rumours of United looking for a striker.

U know SAF.. once you are loaned out it means he won't feature again for United

considering he's loaned out Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley and is crazy high on both players, I reckon we'll see the end of that.

plus he loaned out Piqué to Zaragoza, and then only agreed to sell him coz he wanted to come home.

I'm all for a young Italian superstar , and i hoped for the kid but he disappointed me ..

we'll see.

I remain hopeful.

Veron was/is glorious, just monumentally unsuited for the PL.

he did very well to identify Forlan tbh. he just couldn't get him a run in the side. and you can't argue with him either coz the guy keeping Diego out was Ruud Van Gol who just never stopped scoring. on the rare occasions when Forlan got consecutive games, he started to perform, including his famous brace at Anfield.

Rossi was too small at the time he was in England, he needed to bulk up to be able to compete. but he also needed games and wasn't gonna get that at United.

Still think your hopes are misplaced, Meta. He's good but I'm not at all sure he's THAT good. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Look, while you spenty our weekends watching Man U after or before Barca, I watched Veron in blue and black wear his socks low, make ridiculous tackles, move at the speed of 0.1 mile per hour, play one or two nice passes then resort to long balls which bored the fuck out of me. He is an annoying player.

I just hated him.

he did much the same in Manchester. you could see the talent but the application was mysteriously absent.

you haveta go back to Parma and Lazio in the 90's, or Estudiantes at the end of the 00's, to find Veron being totally awesome. and boy, was he ever totally awesome.
