Don't think that Rakitic would like to leave us. He had a contract extension, earns enough money and loves Spain. The only club he would leave us for is Sevilla and probably Atlético. None of them is interested in him. None of the interested clubs would pay him that more salary that he would consider leaving us. Sure, if a good offer comes in I would consider selling him, but it always takes 3 parties to agree and Rakitic has no reasonable reason to leave us as long as Valverde doesn't say that he doesn't see him in his plans. There are no indications for that.

If Rakitic pulls a Mascherano and says he doesn't want a limited role in the coming season he could be enticed to leave if we really do sign another CM and either switch to a 2 man midfield or move Messi into the midfield as some rumors are suggesting.

Read that Juventus are interested in signing Raki, in case Barca are buying Marco Verratti. The Italians know how to utilize slower midfielders better than Barcelona.

Yeah, I would sell him. Next year we have a WC, right? He needs regular playing time if he wants to keep being an important player for his NT.

That said, less than 40 million would be a joke.

True. We need to start asking for bigger prices as well, when the market keeps rising and rising. We can't let Rakitic quality player leave for under 40 mil.

We should hire someone who is better selling our players, would save us a lot of money through the years.

When was the last time we got prime money for a player? When was the last time we made a good deal, like Vearmalen from Arsenal or Arda from Atletico? It seems to never happen.

We sold Fabregas, which ended up being fairly good deal, because now he is just backup for Chelsea.

Pedro was okayish deal.

Sanchez went for too cheap to Arsenal, but I doubt he would taken the next step with us, so not sad about that.

No he doesn't. Have you seen the Croatia squad?

Who will take Rakitic spot? I prefer Verratti-Rakitic above any other combination (Gomes, Rafinha, Roberto, Suarez...). I know the 4-2-3-1 is popular on this forum, but for now we don't know anything about possible formations. It's all speculation. People on here complain about the quality of the squad and how good RM's bench is but you want to sell the best Barca players...

I don't need to. If a player isn't playing with his club, the chances of him losing a starting spot for the NT increase.

His season has been frankly poor, and he isn't getting any better. Of course, I'd prefer us to sell André Gomes, but right now I see more realistic chance of selling Rakitic, and we'd still get a good amount.

Rakitic will still play. It's not that he will not play at all. So it's good enough for Croatie. He's still one of the best players they have and he's important. Other players don't come near his level. And yes he didn't have the best season, but alot of players had a poor season. It was a team problem. With this mindset we should sell almost every midfielder.

Can't we just sell Gomes and keep Raki? Midfield Busi-Veratti-Iniesta/Raki would be great IMHO...

If we buy Verratti we can sell Rafinha, Gomes and Arda.

-------Busi (Roberto)------------

---Raki (Denis, Alena)-----Veratti (Iniesta)

This can also transform easily in to 4-2-3-1. Roberto can play both DM/CM, Denis can play RM/RW, Raki CM/CAM, Iniesta CM/LM, Verratti DM/CM/CAM. We would have so many options. Off course Danis has to improve a lot but honestly I see bigger potential in him than in Rafinha. My opinion is that this is Rafinha's limit and we could sell him for the right amount of money while Denis for sure has room for improvement.

For me this would be perfect. With this roster Valverde could easily change formations from one game to another. On the other hand this is maybe the last chance to sell Raki but I really doubt that Gomes can fill his place. If he improves significantly maybe he could but I really doubt that so IMHO Raki should stay even if Verratti comes.

I was yesterday in Čeprljanda on Ugljan. No sign of Raquel. Locals are wondering why she did not come this summer. People are crying... Why she doesn't like them. ;)

After two pre-season games not a single person found a need to make a comment in this thread. That pretty much sums Rakitic up completely.

Average in every sense of the word. Doesn't excel in passing, dribbling, defending, or anything really, but he's not so bad he makes us worse like an Arda or a Gomes. In a team where everyone seems to be stepping up their game for the new manager, Rakitic is just... there. Why he is considered a starter is beyond me.

I think you answered your own question here, he has no real competition at the moment, whether he cant do better or just doesnt even try is another question. IMO he needs some motivation in terms of players actually threatening his position in the team.

I wrote in Valverde's thread.

This is the worst midfield since Gaspart's era.
Plus, Busi, Raki and Iniesta already suck and now they are getting older and older.

People said that Raki used to babysit for Alves under Lucho.
For now, his only duty is to pass the ball after 2 seconds to Messi/Neymar who will then try to dribble past 5 defenders.

We really have a mastermind gameplan.
I am afraid that in the end it will turn out that Lucho wasn't a bad coach at all.
It is just that our midfield is insanely horrible and non existent.

And our current idean is to buy more dribblers/attacking players in Coutinho/Dembele?
I guess that our idea will be: currenty we are bypassing a midfield and we have only 2 dribblers in Messi and Neymar.
With Coutinho and/or Dembele, we will have 3-4 dribblers around the box.
I guess that would mean: pass the ball to them as soon as possible and watch a match with 50 solo-dribbling actions around a box and hope that 1-2-3 of them will end in the net.

Wow. Just wow.
What a mastermind gameplan.

Real and Zidane look like from Einstein-aliens from another dimension compared to our current dribbling-solo-magic-actions-gameplan.
