John Stones

Stones is definitely overrated. However, as a visiting CB at the Camp Nou you need midfielders working hard to close attackers down etc. and they got none of that. Pep's strategies are awful for playing away against the better teams in Europe. How many beatings does he need to take?

It's fine margins at this level. The first goal was unlucky due to the slip, and it wasn't until the sending off that the game really ran away from City. Given the gulf in class in terms of personnel, it wasn't as much of a disaster of a performance as the scoreline suggests I don't think.

I know you didn't say it was Stones who slipped but it was Fernando or the other one ...

Game was dead when he fell asleep for Neymar goal.

He's having a solid season so far.

Yes I'd agree , some of his mistakes are a little baffling and very frustrating to watch as I see so much potential in him .

I've seen Hoddle suggesting that they should convert him to a defensive midfielder / sweeper and I tend to agree.

He'll learn. You can't jettison a young defender after one bad game against probably the greatest front three in football history.

Now that was a bad mistake.

In reference; Stones' poor back pass caused a goal for Southampton...

I'm so glad that we didn't sign this player, can't still believe that City actually bought him for £50m or something.

We got a much better player (Umtiti) for half of the price and is the same age as Stones.

He can even turn out good eventually, but today he was sooo bad. And it seems it's his usual level this season. I'm really glad we didn't get him.

His development under pep hasn't been as good as I expected.

Good on the ball but abysmal at everything else. However he's young and will in time improve but City seriously lack a real leader in the back line as Kompany is made out of glass and can't stay fit for long stretches of time.

Pep wants Stones to be his new Pique but without a proper defensive partner (like a Puyol) to call Stones out for his mistakes and help get the kid on the right path it's not going to happen. Pique when he came here had the likes of Puyol,Marquez,Milto,Abidal etc to learn off of in his first season which helped him out immensely down the line.

Seems like Pep is constantly changing the back line tactics and throwing the kid in there expecting him to defend and pass the ball.
