Xavi decided to bench Jordi Alba due to a sporting matter. Against Rayo, the manager considered that Alba was not tracking back defensively. The manager did not speak to the player about it.

Balde wasn't spectacular today but did his job, for the most part, is probably what Xavi wanted considering this was his first game against a team like Sevilla away in which isn't an easy game.

Alba didn't do anyone favors when he came on today, he just looked poor for the most part. If Alonso ends up doing well, it's going to be like the situation at CB, as in why play Pique when we have Araujo, Kounde, Christensen, and Eric who all of them have started the season off well. Just in this case Alonso and Balde will probably satisfy Xavi this season.

Xavi wants to win and probably feels let down by a lack of effort and motivation. You can see guys like Gavi and Eric want it just like young Pique and Xavi himself did.

Alot of players have been in this squad for yeeeaaars coasting, not training hard enough and delusionally thinking they can still show up on the day and compete. Putting the CL drubbings down to everybody else.

To be fair to Alba he still looks like he can bring it physically if he gets a kick up the ass.

And to be fair to Pique he was our best CB (so better than Eric and Araujo) last season when he was on form. But his life has been in turmoil and he has been anything but professional in terms of training and his life maintanence to be at his best level as an athlete.

They probably both have one last hurrah in this first 11 before the end of season, but for now it is nice to see the freshness in the 11, other than Busquets who seems he can still bring it if he is surrounded by fresh motivated legs.

Well said. Except for the part of him still being able to bring it physically. I don't see it at all. He's lost all his speed, and that was always his biggest strength...looking at his other attributes, I knew as soon as he lost his speed, he was done. That's why I wanted him out this or even last summer already. He never could defend, but at least he brought enough offensively (especially until Messi was here, making Alba's career by finishing his passes) and in the passing game to be an asset to the team. But ever since then he just looks physically done, and now that he realized he's not untouchable anymore, he looks mentally done too. Doesn't have the character to fight his way back to the starting eleven. He can only hope Balde gets an injury or something, otherwise he's not seeing the pitch anytime soon. Even more so after Alonso now being an option there too.

Disgusting cameo by him tonight. Looked like a kid sulking, because he didn't get his toy (being frozen out of the starting eleven). That miss of the whole ball when he tried to clear it and then basically the ball hitting him in the head and bouncing to Ter Stegen was downright comical. He's just totally out of it. At this point I'd honestly play Alonso against Plzen, and then Balde against Cadiz (and sub in Alonso like Alba was tonight to give some rest to Balde) and Bayern too of course. Anything not to see this prick on the pitch again until it's absolutely necessary (hopefully never).

Him and Pique have always been the biggest cancer of the old guard. I honestly think they didn't expect to even get benched, much less pushed out of the club (if that story about us willing to loan him to Inter was true) until they decided to leave themselves. It's like their ego just didn't let them believe it. Like Porque said, to this day they're probably still blaming anyone and everything else for all those CL humiliations. Not to mention that disgusting interview Alba did a while ago, where he basically told the fans they've been spoiled with success and should settle for not only mediocrity, but even the humiliations, basically justifying them. Tells you all you need to know about his character.

One of the most hated own players in 22 years I've been following this club. Suarez for example may have been a problematic character and sometimes even a cunt on the pitch, but at least he was our cunt. He loved Barca and fought for the badge at basically every club he's ever been too. But Alba? I don't think he cares much about any club. And he's almost universally hated by all the fan bases, including our own, and a cunt on and off the pitch, from mouthing off to referees, the diving and all the unnecessary provoke moments on the pitch (like last season against Kounde being the prime example), and most of the all shift blaming off the pitch every time shit hit the fan or a manager tried to bench him.

I truly hope him and Pique don't play more than 10 games this season, and that they leave next summer. Busquets I think knows his time is coming to an end and will leave (at least as half as) decently like Xavi and Iniesta did, and will probably have a couple of good more years in the MLS. And Roberto is almost a non factor anyway, especially after his latest wage reduction, but I still hope we don't extend him beyond this season either. We need to be rid of all four captains by this time next year.

As for this season and the problems that may arise...for Pique I'm not that worried, cause this is probably his last season in the game anyway, not to mention he's got a public image to protect among the fan base for any future presidency attempt (which he hopefully doesn't succeed in). But for Alba, since we couldn't remove him from the team, I feel like he could become a disruption in the dressing room this season if he gets permanently benched...just look at when Lucho benched him back in the day. In that case I truly hope Xavi dumps his ass on the stands and isolates him in training, thus protects the rest of the squad from his whining, loser mentality and any bad vibes he may bring (which I highly suspect he will, especially in the 2nd half of the season, and especially if he doesn't get into the World Cup squad).

There were rumors last summer when Koeman was still in charge that Alemany wanted Alba gone but couldn't get it done due to not having the money to get a real replacement in and Alba obviously not budging. Alonso was probably not an Alemany pick but Xavi wanted him but probably sees him as a necessary evil to drive that wedge to get Alba out of here at some point. Especially if Balde keeps on performing and Alonso does what he's supposed to do as well.

Helps also Xavi has been pretty cut-throat so far with both Pique and Alba this season.

Jordi Alba on Inter’s offer: “In the end, everyone acts as they want and I’m someone who likes to be told things straight. You can always do better, but after everything I’ve seen, I’m not surprised by anything.”

Leave it to this little brat to stir shit in the locker room. Enrique understood it years ago when he dropped him
