You guys are not short of money and Perez knows getting Mbappe will help you generate a lot more than what possibly would be lost over some image rights. Perez is not stupid.

Also the fact that Mbappe is negotiating with you guys about image rights itself is telling. He wants to come.

Of course Morten, you being you, would always pessimistically predict that Mbappe is not coming until that obnoxious "Hala madrid" announcement. ;)

We're not negotiating the image right. It is Mbappe who wants to negotiate down Perez position and the board are not willing to move from the 50% that is offered to all players in the club. It's another one of the orthodox policies like not giving 2-year contracts for any player over 34 no matter how much a legend they are etc
When it was Cristiano the club only agreed to 60:40 in favour of the player (the famous 'estoy triste' period, he wanted 100%) even if could argue Perez and CR didn't like one another.

The club wont move an inch for Mbappe on the matter since he hasn't proved anything at the club and haven't done what Mbappe asks for (100%) for anybody.

Basically either Mbappe budges or he doesn't and renews with PSG
Hence it's not all sorted.

If i remember correctly, i don't think Perez has budged on 50/50 for any player in the last 15 years or so, outside of Cristiano.

I don't see Mbappe getting more than 60/40 at most either.

Depends where you read, for example here says CR managed to negotiate it up from original 60-40 in 2009 for his 2nd contract in 2013 but splits are not explicitly mentioned, probably anything between 70 to 80 in favour of player - https://www.marca.com/2013/09/15/en/football/real_madrid/1379232077.html

Point stands - Mbappe didn't do anything to warrant making exceptions for so Perez wont give him what he asks. 60 is his best bet and even that is a stretch considering he's been less impressive than CR for United at the time. If it matters to him more and goes for 100 PSG offers it'll likely mean we've completed blown and played the bluff wrong as he's only going to ask for a bigger share the next time around after his PSG extension.

I can perfectly see him staying on that basis. Very much wants to win CL with his boyhood club, this could seal it up nicely.

How much more or less money the club vs. the player would make with the needle moving each way, in terms of the image right breakdown?

We want Mbappe to go to Madrid. It’s go for La Liga and will be good for Messi at PSG. It will however be bad for Barca in the short term.

Mbappe going to Madrid will definitely be good for La Liga but how does it benefit us intrinsically, I don't know yet. A little bit more TV money than before? That's about it.

Don't care about Messi and PSG but Mbappe going to Madrid means our shot in a La Liga title will be even less than right now.

Or, to be more precise, can't put a number on anything beyond known sponsorship deals. Ronaldo makes ~30 per year on his lifetime contract with Nike (not sure if that's before you take off the image rights that went to RM/Juve/MU or after) for example. That being the biggest sponsorship deal means it's likely within 70M annually (assuming only these old packages).

Which means if Mbappe makes anywhere near that from his agreements or will make in the future, he'd get to double or triple his income.

Real missing out on both Mbappe and Haaland would be nice. That means they are forced into buying some lesser player or take a gamble on an unknown which could turn out a flop(see Jovic).

Mbappe is the real deal and would dominate in La Liga for years.

They'll get Mbappe eventually. If not now then in two years.

At least it would give us 2 years to get someone similar or Fati to fulfill his potential. Better than getting smashed 2 years by Mbappe in the league and Real being top favorites for CL.
