What's the big deal with Amorim? If anything Porto manager Conceicao is more impressive. I'd take a bet on Conceicao personally. Very impressive what he did with Porto against superior teams in CL in the last seasons.
Conceicao is poor man's Mou. Good tactically but his antics wouldn't fit well into Barca. Constantly bitching about refs, get emotions the worst out of him and had clashes with managers like Pep, Tuchel and Arteta. Can do well in big games but OTOH this season I've seen Porto often struggle to break down smaller teams in Portugal.
Amorim just checks most boxes imo. Young up and coming manager with clear ideas how he wants to play and can transform that to his players. Good working with limited resources and developing young players which is what we need. Humble, hard working and beloved by his players and fans. Also deals well with media from what I've seen which is also important at Barca. Able to make big immediate impact (like at Braga) or build a succesfull longterm project (Sporting).
Took over Braga in January 2020 when their first team coach was fired and in only two months he beat both Sporting and Porto twice (both in the league and in the Cup which they won) and also led Braga to their first away win at Benfica in 65 years. Was actually unbeaten in 11 games against Portuguese opponents, they've only lost in UEFA Cup against Rangers.
All this was enough for Sporting to pay 10m for him which at the time was 3rd highest fee ever paid for a manager. But after Covid break that investment paid off almost immediately for them as next season Sporting won their first league title in 19 years. Almost went unbeaten as well and lost their only game in next to last round against Benfica when they were already crowned champions. Next season they've progressed through group stage of CL for the first time in almost 15 years.
Had to rebuild the team over last two seasons after selling key players like Joao Palhinha, Pedro Porro, Matheus Nunes to EPL while Nuno Mendes and Manuel Ugarte went to PSG. Brought cheap players like Hidemasa Morita and Ousmane Diomande (love this kid) and last summer they've spend a bit more on Morten Hjulmand from Lecce and Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry both of whom will be sold for big money this summer as well.
At the same time they also developed youngsters from their academy like Goncalo Inacio (linked with a big move to EPL as well), Eduardo Quaresma, Daniel Braganca and Geny Catamo and now they are on the verge of their second title in 4 years under Amorim after they've won two leagues in previous almost 40 years. People talk about "big 3" in Portugal but over last few decades it was mostly a big spell of dominance by Porto with Benfica chipping in with a few titles here and there until Amorim changed that.
Clearly there are some concerns how he will do in a better league as Portuguese managers after Mou (like AVB, Nuno Espirito Santo, Paulo Fonseca and Bruno Lage) didn't really have that much success abroad. Conceicao will probably be the next on that list and we'll see where he'll go and how he'll do.
If I'd have to compare his results to someone I'd say Amorim did something similar to what Simeone did with Atleti a decade ago. As said we'll see if he can transform that success to a better league and also European competitions (they went out against Atalanta this season but they've proven they are a very good team with that win at Anfield last week) but I believe he has everything to become next top manager and if he decides "to do a Xabi" and stay at Sporting for another year and we'll have a chance to get him in 2025 then we would be stupid to not at least try. Doubt there will be many better options available unless we can somehow get Klopp.
