Lionel Messi - v7

This is basically Michael Jordan Wizards version, if not worse.

I absolutely hate seeing alien tier players in their washed up state...it discolors the rosy memories. He really should do the route of Xaviesta.

Thats what I am asking myself. And he turned to Ronaldo with this FK thing. Let someone else shoot ffs... Messi cant score and better let go.

What's even worse, he is not even close to scoring from FK. His FK's are weak and imprecise. This is clearly psychological thing or he stopped practicing them.

The problem with his shot power is that he used to generate an immense amount of momentum with how much his legs could accelerate during the shot mechanics (Look at this first goal v Milan in that comeback in 2013. Barely lifted his leg much but it was a rocket in the corner).

Now his legs are gone and he can't generate the same acceleration, which compromises both his dribbling and especially his shot.

CR7 still has a lot of muscle/raw physical power to compensate for the decline in his legs' ability to accelerate.

That first goal is my favourite career goal from him, was surrounded by many players and still finds the hole to smash it into the corner :worthy:

If you watch only him, he was not THAT bad.

But if you watch him in the context of a team, then a team has a huge burden on it's shoulders.

Alba, Frenkie, Busi, Braith all looking for him all the time.
And his slow build up when he slowly drags the ball from a CM position.

He stands 2 meters away from Cou and Griezz.

Around minute 65, Cou had the ball at the edge of a box, Messi was standing 2 meters on the right.

If Cou wanted to dribble or run with the ball to the right, Messi is standing on his way.
If Cou wanted to pass to the right, Messi is standing on his way.
If he wanted to make 3 steps and shoot, Messi is standing on his way.
What are the only options left?
1. Pass to Messi
2. Pass to Alba

Oh, wait.
That's what we do for 90 minutes.

Cou's only good action in the match came when Messi was nowhere near so he could freely move, dribble and shoot.

The list continues:
In the last 8 matches when Messi played for 90 minutes, Barca struggled and played like shit in 7 of them.
What a surprise (sarcasm):
Valencia 2:2
Sociedad 2:1
Levante 1:0
Juve 0:3
Cadiz 1:2
Osasuna 4:0 ***
Atletico 0:1
Alaves 1:1

Crystal ball, crystall ball, tell me how will we play in upcoming matches with Messi on a field?
Good or bad?

The easiest bet this season.
Easy money.

I think he looks fitter overall and less sloppy(still not quite there yet) and presses and defends more.

He will never be good enough anymore for us to afford to give him the role he wants. That's the problem. If you want total freedom, not to defend like anyone else, to move where you want, to not be subbed etc., you need to deliver the goods every week. And by that, I mean goals, assists. Benzema is better than Messi comfortably this season.

We gave Messi all this freedom, all this special treatment over the years because he was banging in the goals, at least in Spain. Now that is gone as well.

tl;dr bollocks no doubt. Coutinho obviously gt a rocket up his arse at HT as he was useless up to that point. Good to see him up his game somewhat second half but really it wasn't a whole lot better, unfortunately.

He was fine, no one is claiming otherwise but unfortunately this is far from his usual level.

right, but if i remember well we had on the pitch the approx 300mio prodigious players Coutinho and Griezmann.... they have to win us the match without any problem if Messi is far from his usual level. Oh wait, i forgot that with Messi on the pitch, they lose their football skills and they are frightened and intimidated by him because they have to pass the ball always to him....

Watch a match again and check options of Cou and Griezz.

When they are free = teammates see only Messi
If they run into counters = teammates don't see them because they need to pass to Messi who will build the attack slowly from a CM position
When Cou and Griezz finally get the ball, the opponent has already parked the bus and AGAIN Messi is lurking 2 meters away from them centrally at the edge of a box, asking every ball.

I lose my nerves watching that shit.
Imagine how Cou and Griezz feel since they are living that thing every match.

Messi's presence on a field, positioning and his fame/history/respect is totally killing the team.
