Lionel Messi - v7

We haven't really made any effort to release major earners either.

How do you know that? They all have massively overpriced longterm-contracts with the club, signed by club's former president Bartomeu. Everybody knew back then that this guy was crazy and nobody in their right mind considered anything like Covid was going to happen.
People can hate on Laporta how the want, but this is on Bartomeu. There is nothing you can do about it. Only a big investor buying club's shares could save the club from that, which is not possible for obvious reasons. Laporta faced a losing game right from the start. I'm sure he desperately tried to find a way out of that, but it is a mission impossible.

Does anyone know what salary he was looking for/what was agreed upon?

If he really wanted to stay couldn’t he have taken a massively reduced salary?

As soon as Laporta took power he should have been working on wage cuts, sales and contingency plans such as putting more valuable players on the market. There is no excuse for not seeing this coming, that is his job, to manage the finances, and even worse, he lied to the fans throughout and bluffed his way through this pretending we were doing fine. It is his job to make sure Messi's contract could be registered.

He has been working on wage cuts. Sales he has too, but when nobody is willing to take those players we want to get rid of, what do you do? You can't just terminate contracts en masse, there are legal ramifications, and it will damage the club's reputation (who will want to come here anymore if we just unilaterally terminate contracts whenever we feel like?). And we can't put the more valuable players such as Pedri, Fati, Frenkie etc. on the market, because who is going to be there when Messi is 36?

Laporta does owe fans an explanation on why he has been saying "everything is going well" all along and we have this today.

So.....will Neymar give up the #10 for Messi then?

Can't wait for the set piece taker decisions between Leo, Ney and Ramos.
Pochettino gonna be like a dad listening to wife and her three sisters making dinner in the kitchen.

With Mbappe sulking in the corner

If this really is the end,it is absolutely shameful and disgusting.Leo deserved a full ceremony with a sold out Camp Nou,not this silly tribute video.

We are talking about the best player in club history BY FAR.

It’s tragic and funny simultaneously…

Neymar and Messi to bully Mbappe and decide to take all set pieces between the two of them.

If the salary cap of 160M is the right figure I doubt that there is a way to even register already signed players. You can't even pay the current squad with that.

That is where the power-play could make sense. Perhaps, Barcelona can in fact register Messi, but they want more than that and trying to force LL to ease up, that is one. Two, Laporta was waiting for LL's response (thought that they were going to make an exception) and was surprised with the CVC deal, which was rejected (rightfully so.)

I just don't buy the forcing La Liga's hand or powerplay theory.
