If Mbappe is gone next year QSG will be in trouble. Nerman has lost his finishing boots and isn't the same player anymore. Age is catching up with Messi.

Tata was brought in by Rosell as to make out Messi wanted him. He didn't even knew the guy.

While our manager recruitment was bad, it followed the same pattern as always - Spanish speaking, former club player or Dutch.

See Rijkaard, Van Gaal, Serra Ferrer, Rexach etc

Even if it was just an accident facilitated by the club's coaching criterion, it's still a fact Messi only had two 'strong' coaches in his career: Pep and Lucho for a single season.

Great players benefit from playing under great managers for teams with structure.

Without a doubt it has been an issue at Barca that they have chosen coaches as to not rock the boat for a group of players they knew held the ultimate power.

When hear some comments from Setien, Martino and even Valverde can see what it was and how much of a shitty job it could be with lack of full control any top coach would get.

Part of the issue with elected boards set up.. they can focus too much on their own time rather than what is best for future of club.

Pep knew it too most likely and part of reason he left.

Once all amigos gone and Barca can sign players/have youth players with more experience it will become a very attractive job. Up there with any in world in trying to get Barca back to the top.

Agree, don't think he wanted to be coached by bums or weak personalities.
Also, as a coach for Barca or Real you have to know how to work with big egos. See Zidane or Ancelotti. Both had good relationships with their players.

Lucho was just too much of a hot head for his own good.
He should have handled the situation better.

I still don't understand how you keep underestimating just how much power Messi, Suarez and the old Catalans in the club had/have. No president will speak about it, but we have already had three coaches speak about it so far. It's not exactly a secret now. Go read the interviews with Setien and Valverde. Lucho has also dropped some hints. It's impossible to deny at this point.

What power mate? And what are we discussing here?

Did they want to be coached by the likes of Setien or Martino? Is that what you are implying?

Yeah, they liked Valverde as they won with him and was more laid back than Lucho who was the opposite.

If managers go into the dressing room of Barca or Real thinking that it's a walk in the park then they are idiots. Of course with big stars, that won a lot there is also a sense of entitlement.

Those so called interviews don't clear up anything. No manager since Pep has said that players were unprofessional.

They didnt just like EV as they won with him if all about that and Messis ultimate desire to win more CLs as he has states himself would not be happy after Roma or Anfield.

Valverde kept them all as spine of team, didnt rock the boat at all and let them away with murder. Look at some of the shit Pique got away with and how often they had rest days and low intensity training.

No dount they like EV and they liked the way he managed them within the squad... ways in which would be seen as detrimental to team by any top coach.

That is what EV was brought in to do. Manage the old core and keep them happy while trying to squeeze what can out of last few years so not his fault but the board were shit scared of those players in way likes of Real have never been.

Think you're looking at it through pink glasses. Sure, if you came to him and asked if he had wanted to be coached by bums or weak personalities, he'd look at you strange and say no. But it's pretty clear from various interviews, but also watching Barca that certain players wanted to play their way. And did thanks to weak personalities Barca had in charge.
