Am I the only one that thinks it's not 100% Moyes' fault that United have had this terrible season? Sure, he's been bad tactically but this United squad have been needing an overhaul for about 2 or 3 years now. Even if Ferguson stayed, I think with the age in the squad and lack of signings; they would've finished 3rd or 4th. Vidic hasn't been the player he was for a few years now and same with Ferdinand. Meanwhile, Ferguson had to call upon a 2,000 year old Paul Scholes to give him some stability in midfield last season.

Let's look at the age of the core of the squad:

Evra - 32
Ferdinand - 35
Vidic - 32
Giggs - 40
Van Persie - 30
Carrick - 32
Rooney - 28
Mata - 25
Kagawa - 25
De Gea - 23

I'm not trying to say Moyes is a genius who has shit players because he's made poor decisions both tactically and personnel wise but United definitely need to make 2 or 3 important signings in the summer whether they are continuing with Moyes or not. They need to build around Rooney, Mata, and De Gea. Also, I don't understand why Kagawa gets so little minutes. They need to make him a first team player or sell him.

You fail to mention that their best defender is actually Evans. He's only 26 years old. Vidic, Ferdinand and Giggs are not really part of their core.
For some reason you never included Rafael either. He was one of the best right backs in the league last season and he's only 23 years old.

They also have young players like Jones and Welbeck ready to contribute. Also Smalling and hell, even Cleverly did okay under SAF.

DDG
Rafael-- Evans -- Jones -- Evra
Mata -- Carrick -- new -- Welbeck
Rooney
van Persie

you could always drop RVP, play Mata as number ten, Rooney number 9 and play with an actual winger on the left.

All they needed was one player that could add some mobility to their midfield but instead he signed Fellaini. A brainless turtle that looks massively out of his depth at the moment.

Left back and a midfielder to give Carrick some time and space to distribute. I'd say, the rest of the team looks good.

See. This is what Moyes has done. Effectively destroyed the reputations of half of the United team.

When I saw their lineup before the Liverpool game I was a bit surprised I must admit. They had lots of quality on the pitch. Rooney, RVP, Mata, Jumanji, Carrick, Vidic, DDG, Evra, Rafael. Obvious weaknesses in central midfield, some players past their primes (Evra, Vidic), some overrated (Mata) but still. They are not a team that should be 2 places behind Everton. From 1st to 7th in one season due to managerial change. When has this happened before?

That shows the genius of Sir Alex.

Manchester United Squad 2013-14

Key: S.R. = Starting Regular, Squad = Squad Rotation Player Only

KEEP
GK David de Gea (S.R.)
DF Rafael (Squad)
DF Phil Jones
DF Jonny Evans (Squad)
MF Juan Mata (Only as CAM, otherwise bench)
FW Wayne Rooney (S.R.)
GK Anders Lindegaard
MF Michael Carrick (Squad)
FW Danny Welbeck (Squad)
MF Shinji Kagawa (Good player but not being given a fair opportunity to show it)
DF Alexander Büttner (Squad)
MF Adnan Januzaj (S.R.)

GET RID
DF Patrice Evra (Thinks he's a Winger, doesn't bother defending anymore and past-it)
DF Rio Ferdinand (Finished. More interested in being a celebrity)
MF Ryan Giggs (When a 40 gets MotM you know you've got problems)
DF Chris Smalling (So overrated its untrue)
FW Javier Hernández (Has stagnated. Needs a new challenge)
DF Nemanja Vidić (Leaving anyway)
MF Nani (You could be forgiven for thinking he retired)
MF Ashley Young :)facepalm: Was never good enough and never will be)
FW Robin van Persie (A disgrace of a professional. Last person I'd want in the trenches)
MF Tom Cleverley (Needs to drop down a level)
MF Darren Fletcher (Won't be the same player, partly due to his illness)
MF Antonio Valencia (Just an athlete)
MF Marouane Fellaini (Waste of money and a total embarrassment)

I'm not suggesting all these players should be moved on this summer. That would be ridiculous. But I would expect them gone by the start of the 2015-16 season.

@ceefoo: If all of them go in just one/next summer with Moyes' attractiveness bearing in mind, United will be a 12 men team and just 1 person on bench to sit with Dave.

Man Utd need a total rebuild, that is clear to see to everyone.

But you made a good point in that; how is Moyes going to attract the quality of player he needs to get the club back at the top?

The short answer is - He can't. Man Utd is a huge club and is a draw in itself, however, no CL football next season is going to count massively against them. ALL top players insist on playing CL football nowadays, and there would still be no guarantee that they will qualify next season either, even if they were to hire a world class manager. Many players wouldn't have even heard of Moyes before he was appointed SAF's successor. So Moyes HAS to earn the respect and reputation, and up to this point, he hasn't done that. And going by this season, he has actually done the opposite and damaged whatever name he had.

There IS NO quick fix. But sacking Moyes at the EOS and getting a manager fit to be Man Utd would be a massive step. The club at the moment is the laughing stock of world football, and as much as they are failing on the pitch, they are haemorrhaging money off it. This season is a write-off. They are not going to be beat Bayern, they can't finish top 4. They can only start planning for next season, and the first step is to get rid of Moyes, even if it does go against the clubs ethos and upset SAF. We all know Moyes' appointment was a mistake and now that the majority of Man Utd fans have turned on him there is no way back. Not unless he wins the CL, but that's not likely to happen is it? :bruise:

"Get rid of VanP"
Unless he would rather sit on the bench. Rooney will become the CF next season. That means Mata, Kagawa or if they are really desperate; FAILaini will play behind him.

There is no position for RvP in the team. Plus he's proven himself to be a bottler. He may be talented, but he isn't fit to wear the shirt imo, and should GTFO!

I think it's his mentality in particular that pales in comparison to the other greats of today's game. On the outside, his on-field persona, he appears to be a tough-minded individual. I think that's one thing that struck everyone about him ever since he broke on the scene. He wasn't fazed at all, and he'd go out there looking to bully the most aggressive of defenders.

Underneath that is a player who lacks the belief and inner drive of the likes of Ronaldo. And I think it irks him. He's obviously been lauded by the English press since day one, but his club manager and arguably the greatest manager and judge of character in football, never really spoke that highly about him. You see the admiration on Fergie's face as he spoke about Ronaldo's latest exploits and his inevitability of him becoming the world's best. With Rooney it wasn't really like that. Whether Fergie didn't think he was that good or whether it was just because he felt Rooney couldn't handle that expectation like Ronaldo could.

He's a very good player. But he's not in that top, top bracket with Ibra, Suarez, Messi and Ronaldo. And as much as I'm sure he craves to be, I think it's safe to say at this stage, he won't ever be in it.

So good luck to United if they put him as the main forward; but they won't.

I am not implying that Rooney is in their class. But neither is RvP.

Rooney has just signed a contract that makes him the highest paid player at the club, plus he is also the clubs ambassador. He will be club Captain next season and has been at Old Trafford for 10 years. That means he has seniority over RvP. Rooney hasn't had a great season but he has STILL been one of United's better players and even when the team is struggling, he still gives 100% on the pitch. That can't be said for Van Persie.

RvP on the other hand is a whiney-little-b**** . He is only any use when the team is playing well. Whenever the chips were down this season and was needed to raise the team, he goes missing. And this is the man who was Arsenal Captain. When he arrived at Old Trafford he said it was because "The little boy inside of him told him to go". Now that "little boy inside him" is saying "Get the hell out". All he has done is blame others for his shite performances and tried to pave his way out of Manchester now that times are hard.

What a gutless turd he is!
