New goalkeeper?

This is the first time we are strongly linked to new GK in the MATS era, and it comes with a new coach and a bad injury for him that could end his prime. Never mind he will be 33 when he comes back, even for a GK that isn't young.

Unless the clun suddenly believes that Pena is reliable, we will bring a new GK that will compete with MATS

I hope we are, but it seems that this week the media is going strong with Pena support.

I mean it is probably well deserved after the Clasico win, even if his best saves were offside and that his distribution was sketchy overall.

Let's not kid ourselves, 0 Euros will be spent on a new GK next summer. ter Stegen will be untouchable next season as well.
Completely understandable. As long as we don't start losing games because of him, gk position is a luxury we can't afford right now. We urgently need a striker we'll build up behind Lewy next season, a decent RB backup for Kounde, if Fort isn't good enough and watch Balde this season very closely, because if he doesn't improve, we could also do something on the LB position. Thanks to Casado and Bernal, DM isn't urgent anymore.

Goalkeeper might be as important as a Lewy replacement though. Stegen may not be the same goalkeeper after his knee injury.

While Lewandowski looks like he still can go, and we have the option to pursue David as short term rotation or Roque if he sorts himself out at Betis.

We aren't bringing a real competition to Lewa next year, at most a FA like David who will be shipped out in couple of years, and that's it.

Lewa replacement will happen in 2026, and right now it seems we are only short of bench depth. Kind of perfect situation to bring a new GK.

The goalkeeper is the most important player on the pitch. A great one is worth 8-12 points per season and is even more important in knockout cup matches.

If they think Pena is now a legitimate option going forward, then that's a really bad sign. Nearly all of his saves in the Classico were shots that were struck straight at him, unless you count the save from the offside. It was more of a failure of Mbappe's 1 on 1 finishing than Pena brilliance. Outside of those saves, he was his usual shaky self.

Thinking Ter Stegen will come back after an injury like that at 33 and be number 1 again is even more crazy. This is where you separate a continuously winning ruthless club from a club that wins in fits and spurts. NOW is the time to go all out and spend big on a WORLD CLASS goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, everything indicates that we will continue our history of undervaluing the goalkeeping position and will then ask ourselves " How come Madrid win when they play shit and we get humiliated when we do the same ? "

Btw Kochen was quite good for the B yesterday. He has something, but I would love to see him go on loan for a season or two and be starter in an environment with more pressure.

B is great, but it isn't really the perfect development environment for a goalkeeper imo.

True, our future plans are getting quite obvious, we even know some names that the club will probably try to get. In 2025 I expect we go for Nico, a backup fullback or even two (Mingueza?) and I hope for a top GK (Diogo Costa?) even though I think the club is stupid enough to go into the next season with MATS and Pena.

In 2026 we go with everything for Haaland.

We will see, but I dont think Deco necessarily believes ter Stegen is his guy.

I think we will sign a GK in the summer, but probably wont spend more than 20-30m.

Better not hope Deco is too stubborn with Diogo Costa who seems to be his #1 choice atm.

Frankly I don't want to see any Portuguese playing for Barca in the next 5 years. Let Manchester United pick all them Jorge Mendes clients.
