Oriol Romeu (loaned to Girona)

Also just a hunch feeling, but don't feel this guy would be anything near our worst signings. Experienced gritty dm, not superstar, but certainly could do his narrow job in certain tactical setups. Don't think Xavi will use him as lone DM anyway, probably in combo with our existing and acquired players as an additional security valve. At least i hope so. Think he could do well surrounded by technical players of different profiles that he didn't have in previous teams and still did his role job p. well.

Just glad we didn't sign Amrabat. That would have been a disaster.

Romeu isn't great, but not expensive and I can see him play a decent squad role.

Marca run a story today that we need to reduce first team expenses by 60m (so sales + wage drop) in order to register the two (three with Oreos) new signings.

So there's really no margin cap wise this window, and who knows even if there is enough for Vitor Roque in a years time with the way things are going.

Now saying that, for what Oriol will cost, we only really have two options.

A) spend 5m on someone like Oriol with experience

B) Risk it on a prospect like Zambrano or Fabricio.

We know which one Xavi is inclined for compared to say, Koeman, so let's just hope it is justified.

I don't think he is a bad signing for the squad, he is a mid player and you can't expect more as a starter, certainly not at 32 and past career peak. So what else is there for no money. This isn't Italy or France where you can get players like Locatelli and Mbappe on loan for a year or two and then pay later.

Imagine fighting for titles with a team of dembele lords Torres fati and an Orio.
You mean like the Spanish Primera Division? Or the Spanish Super Cup? Or compiling a team that can beat the most successful team in the history of the sport (confidently) home and away? Yeah, what an imagination that would entail.

We have already done that with even worst squad and more lords within our ranks. Nothing new here. Current squad has way more potential than one 2-3 years ago.
He is slow as fuck.

Will be a complete liability in CL.
If he is isolated DM like Busi always was, then yes. If he's just cog in the system, where anyone of Dejong, Gundo, Pedri and Gavi also take part, then think he'll do fine, especially with likes of Araujo, Christensen, Kounde and Balde watching our asses.
