Like a poster before Said, the way he plays & the spaces he takes up, is clearly what has been instructed by Xavi, who has said a number of times before joining Barcelona, that he likes his winger to stay wide & open up the pitch because that's where he thinks the space is to exploit.

Given that and the fact that we play with Alves at RB who isn't capable of getting up & down and providing width anymore, obviously the winger that plays on that side, will stay wide more often and provide crosses and going by his assist numbers it has worked.

He's not gonna score goals hugging the line, which is clear as day what he is being instructed to do.

If he played for Liverpool, city & the likes he would cut inside more.

That being said, we should still let him go in the summer, not worth all the stress.

Ok Xavi's instructions.

What was Dembele's excuse last year...? Outside of the time he played as a makeshift striker, he played exactly the same way as he does now whenever he was deployed as a winger. What's your excuse there?

Why would Xavi, one of the key players of Barcelona 2009-2012, ask his main winger not to function as a...main winger. You do know wingers can provide width AND cut inside, right...it's not one or the other. Literally like my boy TotalFootball said, literally every other elite winger does both jobs with no problems whatsoever. Why would Xavi specifically tell Dembele to provide LESS options for the team, when there's another winger in the squad (torres) that provides both...? If Salah was here alongside Torres at LW, Salah would be cutting inside and providing width just as he does in Liverpool. Xavi won't turn around and say "this is my specific playstyle and i need a crossing merchant staying at the sidelines 100% of the time all times in order for my super special playstyle of football to work." No...he'll just let Salah do his thing.

It's quite simple.

He's just not talented enough to play both options. A braindead footballer. Occam's razor. Simple as one two three. Stop making up differential equations tier theses to explain Dembele's limitations as a football player.

Why xavi instructed him to do so? I outlined two above, as a manger he believes, the wings are where the space is and he wants to stretch the pitch as wide as possible, can't be bother to find the YouTube clip of his saying as much.

2) our RB is 40 so he can't provide width on that side, as such both he & Adama primarily stay wide (yes I know all the draw backs of Adama)

He use to cut inside more, when playing under previous coaches, he would be wasteful when doing so,but he did do it, this is really is best run of form & fitness since being here, so I'm pretty sure he could score a goal or two if he actually came into the box more, but right now that isn't the role he is being asked to play.

Still sell though.

Nah, You're mistaken. Dembele wasn't playing like this before (that's always trying to deliver crosses), just go and watch some of his previous games in other seasons again like against Tottenham, Sevilla, Villareal and you'll see it. He knows how to combine with the rw (did it many times with Semedo) and can also cut inside (though he's not a prolific goal scorer). We'll see if he still got it when he leaves, and I think he's got so I'll like to see how he performs elsewhere.

I have to admit I am pretty much done with Dembele after the Frankfurt game  Something just broke in me.

There were definitely worse performances on the night, but nobody annoyed me more than him. All aboard the Raphina hype train.

Really? Of all the players Dembele actually created chances. Has an incredible number of assists. Barca should get shot of Adama for Raphinha if they want to strengthen the squad.

Raphinha might just be it or he could also struggle here, but I understand that fans are tired of Dembele and want something new. The fact that we recently had players of Messi and Neymar quality on the wings makes it hard to be okay with anything less, we'll see how the summer goes though.

You need a dangerous fullback making overlapping runs which attracts attention of defenders to create space for wingers to cut in. Alves did this for Messi for years. Dembele isnt a great finisher, but he also doesnt get help from RB to create space for him to do so. If we had that possibility, I doubt Xavi would instruct him to never cut it and only stay wide.

Either way, having wingers who are all poor finishers isnt going to get us far in Europe, or even La Liga. Pedro was a very solid player, but our current wingers are so bad at scoring I'd beg to have him back here in his prime.

He apparently lost the ball 36 times thursday. That is somewhere between every third minute and every other minute. Stunning.

Best agent in the world

Moussa Sissoko, Ousmane Demb?l??s agent, told Barcelona that Demb?l? is already considered a free agent. And with that, comes a hefty signing bonus to sign a new contract, something Barcelona would not pay.
