Let's compare qualities:
Ozil
-Better Dribbler
-Better Freekicks
-Better on Counterattacks
-More mobile
-Inconsistent
-Low stamina
Cesc
-Better vision
-Better final pass
-Better in buildup play
-Better goalscorer
-Possibly inconsistent
Gotta give it to Cesc here, though they're not far off from each other.
Strange observation. Özil is certainly more
agile and I don't know if that makes him look more mobile but in no way is he more mobile than Fabregas. The areas on the pitch which Özil covers are rather small. Typical #10, playing right behind the striker. Fabregas also excells further forward but he's not a pure #10 like Özil. He does much more midfield work. The best example I can give is this: If Manchester United bought Fabregas he could have played behind RvP but also further back alongside Carrick. If MU had bought Özil he could have only played behind RvP. Which is why United never showed interest in Özil but tried to get Fabregas.
Fabregas' heatmap against Valencia:
Özil's heatmap over 3 seasons at Madrid.
I also don't think Özil is a much better dribbler. Certainly not good enough a dribbler like Iniesta to attribute "dribbling" as a big plus for him. Özil averaged 1 dribble per game last season. Fabregas is about the same (0.8). Fabregas' dribbling just looks awkward whereas Özil looks silky. The end result is about the same though.
Better freekicks? Not so sure about that either. I remember Fabs being a set piece specialist at Arsenal. At Barca he just doesn't take any. He took 1 in pre-season and hit the post. A minor point anyway. Not worth mentioning if one scores 2 or 3 more goals via freekicks than the other. Assisting via freekicks is almost impossible at Barca anyway given the team's height issues.
And while we're at it. I also doubt that Özil is much better at counterattacks than Fabs. Fabs never had the luxury to play in a pure Mourinho counterattacking team behind Ronaldo, Benzema / Higuain and Di Maria running into space. The closest thing he had were Bendtner, Adebayor, Walcott etc. and he still created as much as Özil if not more. Fabregas in Real Madrid's 11 / 12 team would have racked up 40+ assists probably. lol
Lost a bit of prestige after joining Barca and becoming Xaviesta's bitch while Özil got the full exposure of the Madrid marketing machinery as their second best player. Nevertheless, always been the superior player. Ketoth will agree with me.
