Paul Pogba

Think thats the consensus, would be an amazing player to have in our team, would provide creativity along with sheer power.....just not for 100m+ as we don't have that much money spare anymore.......

I'd still like him, but right now, he's nothing but a pipe dream, as we just haven't got the greens for him. P$G, Real and at least a handful of PL clubs would win a bidding war again us as it stands. If we're really hellbent on getting that young CB to succeed Masch, the majority of our transfer kitty will have to go down that drain, leaving only pocket change for a supposed 100M Pogba.

The best thing would be Pogba staying at Juventus so he can develop in his role as their midfield general.

2017 would be the best time to sign him.

He's a helluva player but if we are having a hard time paying the wages of MSN, there is no way we'd be able to handle his and Mendes' astronautical demands.

We need to sign promising talent BEFORE they blow up so that way their value actually increases while they are here, so if we ever do resell, we make a profit at least.

As Trickykid said, the Mascherano replacement is the top priority this summer, then either a striker sub for MSN or a LB should come next before a midfielder.

I think we might have an easier time getting Pogba than that CB considering who the latter plays for

I don't understand how people can say that the top priority this summer is Masche's replacement knowing that he has probably been our best player during the second part of the season and by far the best defender we've had this season.

The real problem in our team is the fact that the three forwards, in comparison to the last season, weren't involved in the defensive side of the game at all.
It made the team unbalanced and this is why we lost so many games during the last weeks ; lack of fitness and rotations caused lack of intensity.

We need an eventual replacement for Masch considering his age. And a good backup CB for the short term since our defensive depth sucks. That CB would be perfect for that (plus he can even provide depth at RB) but again, we all know who he plays for.

And I wouldn't say Masch was by far our best defender this season, Pique's had a very good season too.

I'm not just referring to Marquinhos, but just a young, proven CB in general. But yeah, they aren't exactly a dime a dozen, so we'll probably be bled dry either way.

I love Masch and if it was up to me to decide, I wouldn't mind continuing at least another season with him and Piqué as our main duo (ideally coupled with a decent signing, when Bartra and Verminator are offloaded this summer). However the rumors of us being in the market for a marquee CB signing have been way too persistent this season to ignore, so I'm fairly certain that it must be a priority. We need rejuvenation in defense soon either way, and if we get it this summer, Masch will be able to play a role in grooming and helping this Mr X to adapt while still playing loads himself.

True. People think we can splash all this money on huge transfers, its just ridiculous. We need to be shrewd in the market and when we have 60m to spend and we are going for 3-4 players, then people need to be realistic instead of demanding PSG and Chelsea players to be signed by us.

Can you name these players?

In addition to the ones already mentioned by other posters:

Cavani - used to be considered one of the best strikers in the world in Italy
Alexis Sanchez - took until his final season to finally play well for Barça
Marquinhos - being benched by David Luiz in PSG
(edit: Benatia - used to look amazing in Roma, but underwhelming in Bayern)

Actually the vast majority of the outgoing transfers were underwhelming.

Thiago Silva was a good one. Can think of few others.

This.

If he was signed this year, what would that say to Roberto who has earned his minutes, Arda who is only in the door, Rafinha who hasn't had a full-go yet, Denis who is about to be signed etc. one thing we have over Madrid almost every year is balance, I think signing him now would hurt that a bit.

Plus, I think there's another good season left in Iniesta before he starts to play a bit less, maybe Arda leaves and Iniesta takes his minutes. That's how I'd like it to go at least.

We do have a ton of midfielders on the horizon, though, so who knows how our midfield will look in 2/3 years.
