See, we don't set his price. Lots of rich people want him so he's worth whatever is paid for him. It's been a long time since the price of a player reflected his footballing ability. Or maybe it still does, there's just more money available now.
The market evolved so we have to evolve with it. Or we buy second rate players or some young talent and hope for the best.
Of course we don't but I can very well be of the opinion that player x or y is not worth rumored price x or y. I already wrote novels previously in this thread not many days ago why I disagree with such a high price tag not to mention the insane wage demands that he apparently is demanding. That's not to say that Bartomeu and the real decision makers will be of the same opinion. They are likely not to be that.
You use a too simplistic logic. It's not like the only option out there is Pogba and it's not like if we did not buy him for 100 million euros we would be left with chasing scrubs.
What we will be willing to pay is something that depends on numerous factors. Mainly the sporting and financially aspect. Is Lucho even willing to use almost the entire budget on 1 player? H
ow would the board and the players react to his rumored wage demands that could very well disrupt the hierarchy and squad harmony etc.?
Are there better options out there for such a price? For instance Koke and Gündogan. Is Pogba the right player to strengthen our team with in the first place? A lot of questions.
Now Bartomeu, the remaining board and Lucho have probably already discussed those questions numerous times and now the "only" hurdle that might be left is us agreeing with Juventus on a transfer fee and how to deal with our transfer ban as explained in post 1377.
