Seen split opinions on this. Flick seems to have made his mind up though. Who do you think should be #1 GK for the remainder of the season?

Dont even think he has made up his mind but he wants to establish what the full upside of both are and taking that chance to play Scez into form to show what can do compared to what Pena offers.

Imo Tek is the one to bet on. Peña's ceiling is pretty low, average at best whereas Tek can potentially win us games which I understand is ironic due to his mistakes.

I blame rustiness. Think he needs these weeks to get into form ahead of business end.

Szczesny had blunders whenever he started. Made no sense to suddenly drop Pena. The only advantage the polak has is that the team didn't lose, despite his blunders.

From a sporting sense - weird decision. Dunno about other stuff, like contract, transfer etc.

I would buy the rustiness excuse if Tek was not known for being blunder prone way before his retirement

If he didn't openly say he has lost the motivation for this sport which is why he retired in the first place. For me at least, motivation and willingness to fight for the team and win is very important for every goalkeeper. If Tek lacks that, it is questionable how much he can contribute.

I will however support whatever Flick is doing because, like many have pointed out, he watches them in training every day so probably knows better than us. Maybe he values shot stopping over sweeping or thinks it might be more helpful for the team at the moment, I don't know.

By the way, there is one thing Flick said in a press conference, could have been the one last night I'm not sure, he pointed out that we won all games with Szczesny so far (we did, all 5 he started). Maybe that's the reason, who knows. When Szczesny loses a game it might change.

Tek for CL and cup games,
Pena for the league

Ok, Tek plays like retiree at times, like we saw against Benfica.
The difference between them is not so big to have someone clear #1 and the other clear sub.

That arrangement will do it

Tek has been a bum, but at least he has more of a presence than Pena, who I reckon I could score against. Hope is he gets a grip on his timing (and therefore his blunders). I am team Flick on this.

Both are untrustworthy. Pena might be having a good form and is good sweeper, but just too small for a shot stopper. Most well placed shots are goals and none presence on the second floor. Tek was always prone to weird stuff and is probably even more error prone now, when doesn't give much fuck anymore even if opposite to Pena in shot stopping and clearing high balls.

Think Tek needs matches in continuum to gain form and to fully see if he's good.

It's not a bad moment to give him that run of games with these Copa, easier league matches and CL secured.

If he blunders too much easy to revert to Pena again. Not much to lose with Flo Liga robbing us anyway and the big point gap.
