Willian has less goal involvements than Dembele the last few seasons. Superstar Willian.

Stats BBZ. Your favorite stats.

Inb4 you bring out the good ol' clearances/interception stats to claim Willian is better.

Don't even joke about that. He is more than capable.

Let's quickly summarise the difference between Guardiola losing here and valverde losing here.

Guardiola: lost 3-1, created lots of chances, had their gk and best cb out, liverpool had their best xi. Could have had a penalty early on potentially changing the entire game.

Valverde: lost 4-0, created 2/3 chances (thanks to Messi), had their full squad fit, liverpool had 2/3 forwards injured. Could have lost 7-0 :/

It is a different scenario though.

In this game, City had to win as they are behind in the league. Thus they have to create and attack.
In CL, you had a 3 goals lead and it affects your approach. Remember Real won at Juventus 3-0 and was shit at home and conceded 3 times too before a last minute penalty kick ? And Real Madrid won the whole thing after.

The same happened to Barça. You play slppy because you thought you just had to "defend" the lead and then when they are firing up, you couldn't change gear. Also add the infamous Barça away form. It is similar to Liverpool away form though. They did lose to Napoli, Red Star and Napoli away in groups last year. Lost again to Napoli this year.

Willian is thiccer though. I think BBZ likes that. The thiccer you are the faster and more you run.

Thicc is subjective though for BBZ , when Real won those 3 CL's , Modric-Casemiro-Kroos where thicc physical workhorse beasts. But when they got slapped around by Ajax they have become techincal midgets.

Joke aside, this Ajax team is also very generous in efforts. And from every players, be it defenders or forwards. On top of their quality, i think it is the reason they have been so good in Europe those last 2 years. When they attack they have 5-6 players there. The midfielders are following the actions. How many goals from Van de Beek for example ? I don't remember a midfielder scoring for my team. You had Busquets scoring this week end and it was a rare sight.

Yeah fair points, it's a totally different sort of game. I still think city managed to break through the liverpool press many more times than we did but yes absolutely different context.

Fully agree. It's not only that , their movement is absolutely amazing. Just keep in mind that they are playing without a striker but they just move so much , create space for themselves , heck even Tagliafico who is quite a defensive LB has scored a few crucial goals for Ajax .

It also makes it easier for an elite passer like Ziyech to pick those passes. Now imagine what Messi could do with that much movement around him.

It is what it is.

It's subjective because every player is different under a different manager and matchups. It's normal in football. Xavi and Iniesta got slapped around fair few times under Rijkaard too.

I'll use my new favorite alibies:
1. Willian would do wonders under a manager like Pep or Klopp
2. and anyone would be better than XX (insert a player), in this case: than Dembele. I would take ANYONE over him. No one could be worse in this moment than XX player.
3. also, Willian's teammates in attack don't move as well as players in Pep and Klopp's teams, this is why he can't show his true potential and reach high numbers of goals and assists.
But you can see that on an eye test.

The first too are not penalty. Not enough distance for picture 1. And a deflection for picture 2.

The last one could be a penalty since Mané makes that push movement. But to be honest, it wasn't big enough of a push for falling or losing the ball control imo. Could be allowed for the gesture though.

Do you think that a defender in such a pose with his hands can meet the striker in the penalty area, and not remove his hands behind his back?
