They should hire a proven EPL manager next time. One could certainly make a fair argument for Man U’s squad not being good enough to challenge for the title. Fair enough. But it certainly isn’t worse than AV’s squad. Wonder why they didn’t go for Unai. Because he’s ex Arsenal?
I have had this discussion with you before. It is worse than Aston Villa's squad. I have said this many times - people overrate their players simply because they wear a Man United shirt and because of United's past under Ferguson. For instance Morgan Rogers is miles more talented than Alejandro Garnacho but I bet you'd say different as he isn't half as hyped in the media.

How bad do they have to get - how many coaches do they have to fail under - for the penny to drop that most of their players are absolutely hopeless?

Also, it isn't just about that - even when they had better players than they do now, say 5 years ago, they were still poor (just not as bad as now). That's because Man United as a club are a 90s team playing in modern football. Their players cannot string together moves unless given space, and are useless when pressed. Look at how Brighton pinged the ball around them today with ease. Even Southampton did it the other night. People say fernandes is one of their better players, but he is emblematic of their massive style issue - he (like the club) are pretty bad when pressed and in tight spaces, and he needs lots of space to work in - space you don't get in the hustle and bustle of the modern PL, which is full of athletic monster individuals.

It really is that simple - poor players, outdated style of play, poor in the boardroom and poor coaches leads to how bad they are. Tbh they have been riding their luck for many years and often finish higher than they should. Even this season they should have fewer than 26 points.

Not that Amorim is doing a good job either mind.

Anyway the overall point is that if you don't understand the players are poor by now, WITH ALL THE EVIDENCE OVER YEARS STARING YOU IN THE FUCKING FACE, you never will. I guarantee if Man United had Villa's squad and Villa had United's squad you'd still be saying United have the superior squad. You are from a foreign country and don't know much about Villa. However, you have been exposed to the Man United hype through the 90s and 2000s. All of that means you have a natural bias in rating their players higher than they deserve, because you assume they must be good player as you still judge United through the prism of the 90s. The truth is United are a much worse team than then and not the club they were. If Dalot or Fernandes for example were playing for Villa, they'd have lower profiles and I guarantee you'd rate them lower than you do now, even if the exact same players.

Don't feel bad though - it's a natural thing as a supprter of an lite club to look down on 'smaller clubs' and assume their players are lesser than other (formerly in United's case) 'elite clubs' because you only live in that elite club world. Teams like Villa don't really register on your radar I expect as someone not from England and only really familiar with the 'big 6'.

Anyway, taking a break from the site, but wanted to post my recent predictions, with a point to come for Man City (predicted them to win 3-0). Got the last two United results exact. Pretty pleased with myself for going 3-1 Brighton today but was obvious they were gonna win.

@Maradona37 I have to take my L, thought this season Manu will be back, W for you
People think that about them all the time, don't worry.

I am sure they will be back eventually. It could be soon as football changes quickly. However, there is so much competition in the PL now and they are left behind. They can't spend due to PSR, or sell because of the idiots putting their players on high wages. The new board, INEOS, looks thoroughly inept too.

We could be looking at a Liverpool period of time before their next title (30 years). It has already been 12 at the end of this season.

Crazy, under Fergie they were winning for fun and now 12 years since Moyes....

As long as they dont buy 6-7 new good players no coach will change them

This Amad dude looks promising though, lets see

They won 13 of the first 21 PL titles, under Ferguson. But they played perfect football for that era. They are a dino club - they have failed to adapt to modern football.

Amusingly, what fucked them the most was Pep's Barca. Not only were they completely inadequate against them in the two finals, but that team precipitated a move away from 90s and 2000s EPL counter-attack football United were comfortable with to modern possession and passing football, more tactical and structured. United have totally failed to move with the times tactically in this respect. Thoughts on this paragraph @Birdy?

They need new players. Tbh I am not convinced on Amorim yet, but I think he knows the players are quite useless. It begs the question why did he take on such a poisoned chalice. Even putting aside all my dislike for the club, I don't know why any manager would take them on. It's a sure sign to becoming a laughing stock. Obviously the money is too good to turn down for a coach, and the players too for that matter.

Yeah I mentioned Diallo weeks ago. He does seem to be their most technically proficient players. He is no world beater but looks pretty good and if they had more players like him they might be doing better.

Coaching matters a lot, but so does quality of player. Coaches aren't magicians - they can't turn donuts like De Ligt, Dalot, Ugarte, Malacia, Maguire, Hojlund, Garnacho etc into quality players.

Table updated - 19th in UK and 50th in world. Top 0.068 percent in world.

Hopefully I can maintain this til end of season but a massive ask. This is by far the most popular club league or tournament on the site

The "United Trap". Every time United sack a manager, there are always a bunch of managers who come in thinking they can fix it.

The truth is the squad is mid-table level or maybe top8, they don't have any world class players, and as Maradona mentions, Villa's squad for example is actually better. They have an even distribution of talent and good reliable players, with a top striker in Watkins.

They unironically should have just hired Southgate, lowered expectations, had him fix the culture at the club and the defence and then brought an elite coach in in a season or two.

I still think Amorim will turn things around if given time. Just need to survive this season, throw out the garbage (players who don't fit his system or can't stay healthy) and bring 4-5 new starters.

Definitely won't be a one summer rebuild but they have some ok building blocks imo. If they want to return back to top probably no other but potentially Amad (if he can fullfil his potential which might be hard in this team) is a long term answer but for next two years until they can bring someone better that team with four quality new starters should look a lot better. Not sure if they will do any business this month but primarily I think in summer they need a commanding CB to play in middle of defense, a DM, a LWB and ofc a striker.

Something like

Onana*
Yoro - CB - Martinez
Mazraoui - Mainoo - DM** - LWB
Amad - Bruno
ST

*Yeah, I know he has his blunders but also had some good games. And they just have other more urgent needs than a GK.

**DM - I actually like Ugarte but he's limited on the ball and they will probably look for upgrade there. Would keep him around as a squad player though (unless they can recuperate money invested in him which is unlikely) because they have no depth in midfield. Both Eriksen and Casemiro will likely be gone and Mount seems to be always injured. Maguire and MDL are fine as squad players for time being but probably need another dependable CB as well.
