Seems like that Ajax team and generation was the perfect storm.

Every player including their manager turned out to be a disappointment so far. At least compared to the hype.

OptaBirdy still twerking for Ten Hag?

At least ten Hag had results in Europe so can understand the blind faith. What I will never get over is the Quique Setien hype.

Absolute bum ass manager who played boring sideways passing football.

Quique wasn't given time, and was given instead declined Amigos at full dressing room power to coach

Explosive combination for any manager really

Quique is not a good manager. It is why he is without a job and why the fanbases of Real Betis, Barcelona and Villarreal hated him in the end.

He did a great job at all of Las Palmas, Betis, Villareal mate

His work with those were overrated.
Las Palmas were actually strong and beautiful side to watch in Segunda before Setien arrival. Their coach didn't manage to adjust to Liga after promotion, and this what Setien did. But niether did he build the team or gave them their identity.

With both Villarreal and Betis he just had awful coach before and after him, he is passable at that level. But the moment ypu compare him with the likes of Pellegrini or Marcelino, he is exposed tbh.

Some managers do better at smaller teams but have a boring personality and lack charisma. Those things matter a lot when you need to deal with big egos, which is plenty of what you'll find in big teams.

People insist on tactics too much, when in fact there's a whole lot of different qualities in multiple social areas that you need to be very good at to command a group. You won't get respect simply because you occupy a commanding position.

For real. Out of them all FDJ turned out to be the biggest thing. Which speaks more of how much they fucked up. David Neres joined Napoli though maybe he can finally do something too.

Why is is it so hard to just admit you were wrong? Always doubling down Jammy style…

Because I wasn't
Setien didn't 'fail' at Barca because he wasn't given a single condition that could make him 'succeed'
Simple as that
You could name any coach in the same period, and the same circumstances, and they would have had the same results

He did precisely what you say he didn't: he gave Las Palmas a tactical identity, which involved beautiful football. Hard to succeed in a side of the level of Las Palmas with proactive football.
That makes his achievement even bigger

We didn't test that out actually to pass a judgment.
The Barca job at the time was a minefield for any coach, no matter the charisma and personality.
Even Pep himself would not have been able to control the toxic Amigos at their toxic peak
