Copied from an Inter forum

Let's take a look at our squad. Since Ben took over:
1- Coutinho. Hamstring.
2- Chivu. Groin string.
3- Muntari. Calf strain.
4- Cambiasso (got injured a couple of times. All injuries are related to lower muscles)
5- Julio Cesar. Both with posterior thigh strains. (JC and Cambi got injured in the same game)
6- Stankovic. Calf strain.
7- Thiago Motta. Injured knee. Returned from the injury and got injured again in less than a week.
8- Maicon. Another muscle problem. (No info from inter.it)
9- Milito. Thigh Strain. Then, Hamstring. Another injury against Milan.
10- Cordoba. Hamstring.
11- Pandev. Knee.
12- Mariga. No info.
13- Obi. Lower muscle. Unspecified.
14- Samuel. (Not really Rafa's fault I guess.)
15- Zanetti. Lower muscle. Unspecified.

Look at all of these injuries... Apart from Walter Samuel, all of them have a muscle injury which is typically caused by overworking it. This is another way that Rafa Benitez has lost the plot. He is converting a squad that is used to counter attacking football to a possession based squad which has meant extra work at the gym.

No wonder after Milan loss, the squad voted against extra gym work

Did Benitez take Pako Ayesteran with him? Wouldnt expect training methods to cause injuries if he is around.

Rafa needs yes men around him for his ego. His ego is far too inflated by his time spent at Liverpool.

His career is filled with issues that just links back to his massive ego and all of them, started at Valencia.

He was never a master tactician as the English media put it. His tactical prowess is being tested heavily in Italy and he is failing hard.

He went berserk and put three players on, all of which contributed to the Istanbul win and then simultaneously, sold them off one by one.

Honestly, if he actually had balls... he would have gone to Juventus. He wanted to take the easy route and one up Mourinho at the same time.

Well the whole problem with Inter that I was talking about relates to his ego. A smart man would not come into such a successful squad and try and change totally how they play. But his ego, and need to distinguish himself from what Jose did before him meant he had to change everything. So tries to make a team of experienced players run like teenagers, and you see what happens, ineffective football and a huge injury list. He says he needs new players, he would need pretty much a new squad to achieve what he is trying to do, and even then it still wouldn't bring success in Serie A.

Exactly. If he wanted a challenging job with a lot of financial backing from the owners, he would have gone to Juventus as he was planning all along.

He wanted it easy since Inter had a squad that is comparable to the likes of Barcelona/Real/Chelsea or Man Utd and could walk the league easily.

If he bitches about coin, then he is a massive coward.

I am not saying that Rafa is not to blame here, but is it also not the fact that the Inter squad is ageing and at the same time lots of key players have been totally atrocious.

it was a poisoned chalice.

this wasn't like the Chelsea squad where it was a group of players entering/in their prime, and crucially, a group of players who FAILED to win the ultimate prize. they were still hungry.

this Inter squad is old and basically coming to the end of their primes/entering the downward slide of their careers, and they won everything the year before so have lost motivation.

Meta the squad even with all you are saying is enough to be topping Serie A .no one is asking Alfredo Seagfredo to win the CL back to back but Serie A man.. no excuses or decoration he is a failure

But Meta, there is always a reason to be motivated, there is a source and that source often draws a destination.

Rafa is a terrible source, and no body knows what the destination is. Not one Inter player wants to hold onto the ball for too long, so Rafa has his own agenda and the players are not interested.
