Raphael Varane

Yup. He made mistakes on both goals. He is another victim of Ancelotti's mad rotation system. All defenders have been performing very poorly under Ancelotti, it is worrying.

Despite good height; he seems to have more problems with tall and strong strikers like Drogba, Lewandowski, Llorente. He needs to put on a little more muscle and he'll get more experience dealing with height. Other than that; he's a phenomenal talent.

They try to be proactive under Ancelotti and leave space behind. Makes it harder for the defensive line when the team isn't sitting deep and the centerbacks don't have 2 other teammates covering for their mistakes all the time. Happened to our national team as well since Löw changed the counterattacking approach of 2010 to a more "beautiful" and proactive possession style. Conceding goals left and right ever since. Or look what happened to Chelsea under AVB when he tried to play a highline. Very hard to be protagonists in football. Reactive football is much easier to pull off.

Yes, that is true but it is not impossible. Needs hard work and dedication, but most importantly: Continuity. Ancelotti hasn't provided anyone with continuity at all. Isco was the bees knees beginning of the season and then he is no where to be found. All the defenders look out of sorts. The midfielders are disoriented. Even Diego Lopez is losing form, he has been phenomenal generally but lately he's been shaky. Aside from Ronaldo, perhaps Di Maria has been the most consistent performer as well as Carvajal and to a lesser extent Marcelo. The rest blow hot and cold.

True! The system has a lot to say in the perception of the defender. We don't make it easy for our defenders because they have so much space to cover. Sitting deep and defending you own penalty box is so much easier than attacking and making the play.

Varane surely must be the ideal defender when you need someone who can cover ground quickly. The pace on the kid is incredible. Would take him in a heartbeat!

Is it me or Varane career is in jeopardy? He´s been injured for a long time. Knee cartilage is degrading, it seems like a never ending injury. It does not look well for him.

Raphaël Varane

If you ask me, he is one of the best defenders out there.

Full name Raphaël Varane[1]
Date of birth 25 April 1993 (age 21)
Place of birth Lille, France
Height 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in)
Playing position Centre back
Club : Real Madrid

Has been left on the bench most of this season, and would definitely be considering exit. Well we need a starter at CD position and he is the perfect one. Can't we steal. ??

Supposedly Chelsea are looking at him after selling Luiz. Don't see why, unless one of Zouma or Kalas are going out on loan as we've signed up Terry for another year, and he'll get a decent amount of games, though definitely not as many as this past season.
