lets put it this way: if sergio the gypsy wasn't so great at making those crazy runs forward (something we don't see too often since the mourinho regime) and general offensive abilities he wouldn't be playing for RM or Spain.

Excuse me, but if his strenghts lie in defensive work, he is pretty shit. In all the Clasicos of recent years most of our goals came from his side, ALTHOUGH our strong side is actually the Dani Alves flank. Just what I remember spontaneously:

- weird "invisible bicycle kick" when Henry equalised in the Bernabeu in 2009.
- another Henry goal in the same match when Ramos didn't time the offside trap properly against Henry. Henry ate him alive in that match.
- Messi goal from his side in the Bernabeu in 2010. Ramos was only busy raising his hand for offside, got totally wrong-footed by the Xavi chip.
- Villa beat him on 1 vs. 1 in the 5-0 clasico for the Pedro goal.
- got beaten for Villa's second goal (4-0) by the Messi throughball.
- didn't block the "wonderstrike" from Villa in the Supercopa in the Bernabeu.

He's anything but a solid defender. I like his offensive abilities for the Spanish national team though.

You do realize Barca beat everyone and everything on their path and by these criteria every defender in the world would be crap when a Barca player goes past him? There is dozens of other teams Ramos has played against and the only team that have given him consistent trouble in defence are Barcelona (like with probably every other club). He is solid when he is on form, when not, every attacker has a chance of passing right by. That's the bottom line.

- couldn't mark messi's first goal in the CL semi final after afellay's cross
- couldn't mark ibra and left him alone to score that volley
- messed up the offside trap when iniesta scored in the supercopa final

now thats some list

I also added 2 more mistakes I can remember to that list. Now that's 11 conceded goals where Sergio Ramos is pretty much directly responsible for since 2008. Only against us. He's living from the reputation of a single season. No wonder Mourinho wanted to take Maicon with him to Madrid but Inter didn't allow it.

^ He's had numerous brain farts, I remember many for non Barca matches (teams like Getafe, Mallorca etc.) but people here remember his Barca fuck ups for obvious reasons.

just because Ramos likes to join attacks up forward doesn't automatically make him a good offensive player. however, he's a helluva defensive player, with a great lack of concentration at times which leaves him in awkward situations/to so called brain-farts. he's athletic, good in the tackle and has decent positional play, also likes to play it rough, which makes him a terrifying player to face. although, he would be more efficient as a centre-back because he would only focus on his defending and not join attacks. i think that's the main reason to why Mourinho wanted Maicon earlier aswell.

to claim that Ramos is a bad player is just... plain stupid.

hes a bad center back. look at his amazing performances for spain during the WC, he stood out so much since he could go forward and be adventurous, he almost scored in the final after making one of those great runs, and I remember him putting Portugal players through hell in that Portugal-Spain match. that was because he had no defensive responsibilities whatsoever since pique and puyol took care of CB. playing him at CB also takes away that offensive aspect of his game which makes him a lesser player no to mention the numerous times hes fucked up badly at CB. he is a much better RB than CB IMO.

Tonight's Revista focused a lot on some ongoing internal problems at RM...Anyone else reading much about this in the press?

Damn, missed it, what was the crux of it?

Several things, some of it related to an interview Guillem had with Xabi - particularly where he discussed the eye poke...The rest centered on the tactics & lineup for Levante and a potential divide between manager & players...The whole Revista crew seemed to be of the mind that there is a good deal of turmoil going on beneath the surface at the capital club

BTW, 65 matches with Mou at the helm - 16 red cards...By comparison, only 5 reds in 48 matches under Pellegrini...In fact, between Schuster, Pellegrini & Ramos (98 matches) they totalled Mou's 16 red cards

Mou is only 33 matches behind them, how many more reds will they get?

BTW, AS had a poll with over 100k responding, 65% placed blame on the Levante loss on Mou

Thanks FC Barca. Let's hope the Revista crew are right!

Mou's tenure has made a difference. At least under Pellegrini, they maintained a bit of class and they did play decent football in that season. All gone underhanded and dirty since Mourinho walked in.

Athletico has already reinforced themselves. If they don't have any nervous breakdown this season's madrid derby will be mouthwatering.

^ +1. Atletico never put up a fight against Real, its a fact of life. But they play their hearts out and try to break Messi's legs when we play them at the Calderon though :)
