No one would care about your matches either. You can have them, you can also go sleep next to Xavi with a smile on your face while we tour Europe as winners, and then tour the world to win the Club World Cup.

That is if we win anything.

Matches are a cherry on top, to know you have won the league demolishing all teams is prestige, extra icing. And I love extra icing, but it is not necessary.

That is again, if we win anything.
Go to sleep next to Xavi what?

I was bringing up the NBA League format to prove a point about who would be the best team. The way the La Liga format is set up, if you were to win it would definitely provide you with kudos from me, but that still would not take away the FACT that Barcelona are indeed a BETTER team than Real Madrid because if you play us over 7 times in a playoff format (similar to NBA Playoffs) I'm pretty confident about Barcelona's odds to win.

It was just a way to paint a picture for those who don't know of other formats (imho a more effective format) to show the best team in the league. Didn't mean to undermine the current position of Real Madrid and the value of a League title by any means if that is how you took it.

Let me try another example.

Say Miguel Cotto beats everyone into a pulp in the lightweight division.
Cotto vs Fighter A
Cotto vs Fighter B
Cotto vs Fighter C

Cotto (Real Madrid) wins them all but loses to Pacquiao (Barca) three times out of three fights.

Pacquiao's record against those same fighters:
Pacquiao vs Fighter A
Pacquiao vs Fighter B
Pacquiao vs Fighter C

Pacquiao wins all but one fight. Cotto actually has more wins (3) to Pacquaio's (2). Does that now mean that Cotto is a better fighter than Pacquiao?

The experts would all agree and say no. It's a no brainer and a no contest. Pacquaio would be the better fighter. Does that work?

you are all talking here about winning things. even when you win the liga, it's not how many points you gained. but it's also how they draw an image of the club. cristiano score most goals last season, you can measure it. it's a number with a story behind. thats my point. thats what irritates me about todays view of the game, everybody sees the numbers, the statistics. nobody want to see the story behind it.

you look back some day to this season and say, madrid won the league, got that many points. it's just another trophy and a number.

That's the general view is to look at stats and there is nothing wrong with that. It sounds as though you are worried that people will somehow forget our legacy if we don't win this year's Liga title? I should think that by now, our status and legacy is sealed with the Football Gods so we can breathe easy.

I completely understand what you are saying about the NBA. Here is the funny thing about the NBA too though. You can win at home 82-81 and lose away 90-60 but end up winning four out of seven. Every system has its ups and downs, you go into a tournament/sport knowing the full rules, what applies to one team applies to all teams.

As for your boxing analogy your comparing a player sport to a team sport, different variables so to me it is not a proper comparison. But I will play your way and explain to you that the best team is the team with more solutions to more problems. As in, not a team of specialists. You have different arsenal against different armor, you have multiple specialists in one team.

now you want to be poetic? we are not over exaggerating what a league win means, we are also not underestimating it. Something we are still SOOOOOOOOOOOOO far from winning.

i wanted to speak very general but it was a bad example. hope you got the point.

and yes, i want to be poetic about football. it's nothing wrong with that. it's something that's missing todays world of 100000km/h playing tempo, all the media trash, gloryhunters, all the hating that goes around. i don't think the clasicos, for example, were before the games that after the game you don't talk about your own team, but trashing the other. look at the sport and mundo deportivo covers, all are white, not blaugrana. i just don't get it. what do you think which story got more attention, the pepe tackle or messi's goal in that game? today, it's not about football, it's about numbers, controversy and all that shit. nobody cares how good busquets plays, nobody don't want to see how he is playing. everybody wants to talk about his antics.

Going back to NBA, if you win 82-81 and lose away 90-60 but still manage to come back after all that and win "3" more games against that very team that whooped your ass 90-60, then you are far and away the better team my friend (deservedly). You couldn't fluke your way out of that series if you tried.

You are right though NBA, NFL or any other playoff brackets are not the "end all be all" so I see your point with pros and cons. Plenty of La Liga action still ahead and like you mentioned nothing is won yet and there is plenty of football to be played.

barcelona played poetic football for 6 years and won jackshit. that drove u into debt and almost oblivion. barcelonas legacy is built on winnings and then recognized as truly special for their beauty. madrid losing to barca and winning the league can be the start of a legacy not its definition.

so its a matter of perspective.

Zidane: "Pepe is a charming guy. Of course he regrets what he did, but he gives everything and sometimes he approaches the limit."

Zidane (director Real Madrid): "I challenge all coaches in the world to say which system you should use to beat Barça!

Zidane: "I don't get the criticism about Mourinho's line-up. If the opponent is at this moment a bit better, what are you supposed to do?!"

If we look at RM's upcoming away fixtures, one could almost guarantee they are not gonna take all the points from those. We have to keep in mind that CL plays a huge role aswell.

If they win the league, they're officially the best team in Spain no matter if we win both games. But the quality of being good (not used as a synonym to being nice) is subjective, and therefore cules are supposed to believe we're the better team. It's the nature of things. But why the fuck wouldn't RM and their fans celebrate the league title? If they win it without winning a clásico, they're just rubbing salt in cule wounds. They're entitled to be annoying happy bastards.

In other words, Zidane condones Pepe's thuggery. He must have injured his brain when headbutting that Italian guy.
