Ronald Koeman

Xavi needs to coach a midtable la liga club imo before taking the step up to Barca. one of my favourite players ever and i'd hate to watch him fail here.

truth is, i don't think we'll ever see a full 'clearout' of the seniors as each manager we bring in seems to have a hard-on for atleast 1 of them, for Koeman its Busi. we just gotta wait until they decide to call it quits

It's hard to say really, some managers arrive and seem to get everything right straight away and it just clicks at some clubs. Pep had one season at the B team and Rijkaard got a team relegated in the Eredivisie the season before he arrived here for example and both of those have been our best managers of the 21st Century. It's impossible really to say Xavi would fail just as much as you could say he would succeed.

This is true.

I think the obvious coaches we should avoid are those that have been manages for decades i.e. Koeman and Setien who have both been managing for around 20 years and seem to leave behind a trail of destruction at every club they have been to...with the rare occasional good season.

Taking a shot on younger and new managers is worth it if they meet the credentials.

For the love of God why are people blabbing on about a Puig, Pedri and De Jong midfield?
That midfield might be good against lower level liga teams but we would get slaughtered in cl. Too weak, too slow and not enough skill. These guys are not Xavi or Iniesta.

Could you name me the Iniesta and Xavi of the Liverpool team that destroyed us and won the UCL?

Rijkaard has coached NT before, and as you said failed in Eredivisie while Pep had a year in B team.
But the point is, those guys had the chance to test their ideas in Europe and learned from their experience. Same with Lucho.
With Xavi, he is coming from a very different experience as a coach. He himself admitted at one point that he didn't pay attention to how to defend.
While there are a rare success stories like Zlatko Dalic I think it is fair to want Xavi to have the chance to test his ideas and learn a little from his mistakes in Europe. Either within the club setting or within Spain.

I'd like to see Xavi manage the B team first. Less pressure, players who know our style. We will find out whether he can cut the mustard.
What is the point of managing a mediocre liga team? Alot of the time a managers success boils down to timing and being the right fit for the club.

Agreed, the amount of pussies in this squad is incredible. Before we had Mascherano, Puyol, Prime Suarez, Dani Alves, Abidal, and even Xavi who wouldn't take shit from anyone. I think that Mingueza lad looks ballsy, but maybe it's because his face reminds me of Ramos

They bought Vidal ... That ended well ;)

But I see your point. We need LEADERS on the pitch.

It's frustrating. Most teams have multiple routes to goal. Gound, air, combination of short and long passes, crosses, able to play possession and or counters. Also a proper 9, pure wingers, a destroyer. The current Barca is stuck with short passing from tiki taka days with feeble ball playing mids, 10's and ss types in the front line and defenders that can't defend. No leaders on the field and a pussy mentality. If you look at the way Real won against Borussia (not that they are some perfect example) they can hit you multiple ways, on the ground, crosses (lots of them), shots from range (Modric, Kross, Valverde). Most other teams are like that. With Barca it's mostly one route; short pass.

This is our system for years and our downfall.

Exactly. That's why Barca must evolve from that old and totally ineffective way of playing and finally adapt to contemporary football that proved time and again it works way way better, see Bayern, Liverpool and rm for examples.

Vidal started well. Then he realised he'd play more if he turns into an amigo and so he did.

Paulinho was alpha male for his whole season here though. Bring him back!

Paulinho was the best midfielder of the last 4-5 seasons on par with Iniesta... the Chinese Dragon.

I don't trust Xavi here until the likes of Busi, Alba, Pique, and Messi are gone. Xavi would keep starting them til they're 40

Based on what?

If anything Xavi didn't kick up a fuss when he was a substitute and knew when it was time to leave.
