Not sacking this guy in the summer cost us the entire season.

Never forget how he was rambling on about how it would take years for Barcelona to be competitive again.

We would have still been in the CL and possibly in the La Liga race if Xavi had taken over in the summer.

True. His mentality cost us a lot.

Wasn't Xavi himself reluctant to take the job in the summer?
I would say that it was good decision ultimately tbh, Xavi not having to deal with the Messi departure was good for him and eased pressure on him.

You're welcome

Don't remember him saying this.

Think he said something along the lines of Barca not being ready for CL yet, which makes sense since in football you need an attack to score you goals and win the game.

Koeman dealt with covid, injuries and Messi departure and a lack of attack and bullying Laporta.

I just remember he also said something about Barca will be able to compete FINANCIALLY in 2 years time with clubs like City and Chelsea. Which sounds more optimistic from him than negative. Think you made stuff up.

He did constantly bemoan the lack of quality in the squad at the beginning of this season which was true but probably not great for team spirit if saying it to the public.

Pretty much is a resignation that he won?t be able to do any better than he currently is.

On the other hand, Koeman himself was undermined and treated unfairly at times and was never going to be kept regardless of where he finished from 3rd downwards. Mainly because a) he was Bartomeu?s appointment and b) he?s just not that great a coach. Sure there are a lot worse coaches out there but realistically he?s just not at the level required for a top team looking for an identity and a way out of trouble.

I admired his transparency and honesty at times and of course as a player he is one of Barcelonas biggest legends, but Koeman the manager was always unlikely to be pulling up any trees as his track record showed.

Strong ending of the season (top 4 for sure, and possible silverware in Europe :hooray:) will be the foundation for next season.
We can start firing all cylinders and make sure the league is ours!
I am not afraid of RM even with Mbape, they have many problems to solve in their md and defense

Main issue is age.
Do we get same current Alba/Alves/Busquets/Pique/Aubameyang next year? That is basically 5 starters born in the 80's there.
How many of those can we properly replace.
A RM with Mbappe is strong rival tbh

I agree. We'll need money and/or top signings for low money that aren't loans for free or old players. Team is still missing mature (not old, but not raw-ish either) top players. Only one of the required level is Frenkie. Talking about the 24-28 range. We basically have great talents with a bright future + experienced players on their last legs. Not much in between.

Out of this list, the only ones that look necessary for next season and w/o a proper replacement yet are Alba and Auba
Summer transfer window will remedy that.

Busi, as well, but whatever he does this season he will be able to do next season, so...

Alves won't be a starter next year.

We are already planning to bring in a CB that can at least rotate with Pique, who has been very good this season anyways.

Busquets we can't do much about he's a sure starter next season.

Alba & Aubameyang have enough legs in them to compete at the highest level next season.

Sigh. What a boring interview. Koeman comes across as incredibly whiny and grumpy. Not that it's something new.

Bombshells.

Koeman: "It was at the insistence of the club's management that I agreed to the departure of some players to put the finances in order."
Koeman: "But then when you see that they attract someone for 55 million euros shortly after letting Lionel Messi go. It makes you wonder if something else wasn't happening. Why did Messi have to leave??
