Sure when you look at it this way but when we've signed Umtiti in 2016 his 60m clause was still considered relatively high on the market. World record transfer fee at the time was still 101m (Bale to Madrid in 2013) and most expensive CBs was David Luiz (50m to PSG in 2014/15 followed by Rio Ferdinand to United in 2002/03). Later that summer City paid 55m for Stones so Umtiti would still be considered as most expensive CB if United would execute his clause back then.
Some of our issues were self inflicted but obligatory release clauses in La Liga are just stupid and we've paid price for that as well.
A lot of rumors back then. ManU especially wanted to sign him and had no problem throwing 60 mils at him. Umtiti wanted to stay with Barca or got the salary he wanted.

It was an OK price for that level Umtiti.
Now Umtiti is valued at 8 mil by transfermarkt. lol
