Transfers in the Laporta Era

Laporta got elected in March 2021, now it's January 2025, in a few weeks there will be 4 years from the start of his tenure.
Elections are also coming soon (2026 the latest)

It's time to talk about (ANOTHER) one of the worst records Laporta managed in his 2nd stint here: FAILED transfers.

Summer 2021:
- Memphis FAILED
- Aguero FAILED
- Eric ?
- Emerson Rl Comedy (was sold to meet FFP same summer)
- Yusuf Demir FAILED
- Luuk HIT

Winter 2021:
- Ferran FAILED
- Auba HIT
- Adama ?

'Lever'-Summer 2022:
- Lewa FAILED
- Kounde ?
- Raphina HIT only now
- Torre ?
- Kessie FAILED
- Christensen ?
- Bellerin FAILED
- Alonso FAILED

Summer 2023:
- Romeu FAILED
- Gundogan HIT
- Inigo HIT
- Cancelo FAILED
- Felix FAILED

Winter 2023:
- Roque FAILED

Summer 2024:
- Olmo ?
- Viktor ?

(When one assesses a transfer, you have to take into account contribution on the field, wages/transfer fee, how long they stayed, etc.)

Therefore:
Laporta administration went out to buy or loan 25 players since he became president.
12/25 turned to be failures for different reasons
7/25 the jury is still not out for various reasons again (Christensen and Olmo for injuries, Kounde for wages plus how he plays RB, Eric or Adama is hard to determine their contribution given the wage/duration of stay)
only 5/25 can be said to be HITS

Yet, that last number includes Luuk and Auba who were ousted after 6 months, and Gundo despite the high wage who was also ousted after a year. It also includes Inigo who is not gonna stay long.

Thus Laporta administration has made possible only 1 transfer (Raphina) who can both said to be certainly a HIT (even though only after Flick got his hands on him) AND is here to stay long-term. Sorry, Laporta apologists, this must be one of the worst transfer record any administration has made in the span of 4 years

PS: The onus for these lies first and foremost with the president, thus with Laporta, because he selected the SDs, let alone the transfers he handpicked due to his agent buddies. But then also, and very importantly, with the SDs themselves: Jordi-Xavi first, then Deco

We won the league and made profit

L take

Dude, I don't care whether we made profit. (BTW this is only transfer fee. You don't count wages)
We also made profit from Emerson in the same summer FFS. Is that a successful transfer?

What was the purpose of bringing him in the first place?
Did he contribute? Was he an important member of the squad?

OK, we all have a good memory: his Classico winning goal.
But the hard truth is that he was peripheral to the squad. 6th or 7th choice in md.

Any player who comes in on big wages, supposedly as a market opportunity and golden age, and leaves like that after 1 year just to make FFP room, is a BIG FAILURE
That's on the board and the SD, not the player of course

PS: compare to Luuk and Auba transfers: both on super low wages for 6months or 1 year loan.
Did not burden the books and were both massive on the pitch in their respective roles

Kessie was a solid signing. On a free, and made a profit on his sale.

Management just mis-profiled him. Same way it took over two seasons to get the best out of Raphi or how Kounde ended at RB.

Memphis, Kessie, Cancelo did the job they were supposed to do and didn't cost the club a whole lot in a financial situation where making better signings was difficult.

Aguero had to stop playing due to a medical condition.

To call them flops is a bit disingenuous in my opinion. Not everything is black and white. Need some context behind why and when they were signed.

What's the point of this thread? Who should we point the finger at? I bet my house Laporta had no idea who Luuk De Jong was until Koeman approached him. That's what Dutch coaches do in general - they sign Dutch players.

Majority of the transfers in the last 4 years are not flops. They are reflection of the financial situation of the club, mostly free agents. Nobody except Lewandowski arrived at the club on superstar reputation. Memphis was already a flop from Man Utd days, Luuk was no HIT and Kessie was sold to make profit being in backup role.

If we have to talk about flops I'll give you the biggest flop under Laporta - Ferran Torres. That one is on your deity Mateu Alemany.
