Van Persie

The only player (offensive ) at the moment who could take Barca to another level. There are rumors that Barca wants to sign him. I really doubt it but I would give anything to see him wearing the blaugrana. He's amazing. If he doesn't come to Barca I hope he stays at Arsenal.

It's possible. He only has another year left of his contract.

You have Villa though so why do you need RVP?

You don't need him.

Precisely. People have very short memories.

Villa > RVP

This reminds me of when people were claiming that Torres was better than Villa circa 2008/2009 just because he had one great year. Look how silly that looks now.

I don't get why you are so admant to accept that RvP is any good. He's not a one season wonder. His 2008-09 was as good as his current/previous season if not better. Sure he doesn't have stats to back it up but injuries have always fucked him up right in the ass. And even with such troublesome niggling injuries he has always come up good.

a fit RvP > Villa. And this is not a conclusion that I have come up with recently, I have been saying this ever since I've been on this forum. You mark RvP out of the game? He could still fuck you up with his set pieces aand intelligent play-making.

This is greatly exaggerated. Van Persie is obviously a great player and he's having a great season, but he can hardly compare to players who have been playing at an incredibly high level for many years (Villa).

Regardless of any speculation about how good he could have been without the injuries, 2011 is the first year where you can inarguably claim that he was among the best forwards in the world. And he's not getting any younger.

For now, his spell of great form is no different from Torres's hot patch from 2007 to mid 2009 and the hype around it is awfully similar as well. What about waiting to see if he can continue his great form before proclaiming him as one of the world's best, as the Premier League propaganda machine has been trying to do?

I agree with Manuel completely.

Van Persie is very good but this is his first consistently great season. Even Torres had a great year; give it more time before pronouncing him the chosen one. Barca signing him would be dumb as fuck, and go back to our trend of throwing money at Arsenal for no reason.

Though it is interesting how he explodes once Cesc is out of the way. ;)

I get your point... But what I don't get is why this hasn't started in 2008-09. I know EPL were busy blowing Torres, but the rest of the world too!!

to me his 2008-09 season was his best. He was only next to Messi that season. If he didn't hit the post like 100 times and the shit strikers that Bendtner and Adeb(I guess) weren't missing the shitloads goal scoring opportunities that he handed them over on a silver plate, he'd have the stats to back him up too.

Yes, but It's up to Pep...pep is very unpredictable when it comes to signings. I really wish he could join us. He's the perfect player for us. Since the days of Etoo we haven't had a top finisher, I think it's about time we get one.

Villa is injured and by the time he recovers it will still take a while for him to come back. You can't compare Villa with Van Persie. Van Persie has the ability to move the ball around and control the game. In other words, Van Persie is not only a top finisher but he has the skills needed to assist and associate with other players and he has greater technique than Villa. I don't remember the last time villa dribble past a defender. Van Persie has greater pace and strengh and lately Van Persie is a better finisher.
