Monje, who is known for stating Neymar's cost was
''only 19,3 million Euros'', had to step down due to legal trouble surrounding her private company, Essentium/Assignia, which hasn't been paying their workers' wages for several months. The company has a financial hole that's
€125m deep, and the
workers' protests were starting to make Barça look pretty bad. Add the accusations of possible
bribes to public officials and the whole picture turns even darker.
In the end, it looks like Bartomeu gave Monje an ultimatum: either you make this go away, or we'll have to terminate our relationship. And she had to step down.
While this position is vacant, Monje's duties will be taken over by Bartomeu himself.
