Last summer there was a lot of talk about the possible transfer and even Dani came out and said he felt annoyed at Barca for not backing him publicly.
What will happen next summer? Hasn't started the season well, Montoya emerging and now Adriano challenging him too.

His contract runs out in 2015 so from club's point of view, there's no rush to cash in.

Yeah, there seemed to be signs he was on his way out last summer but he's still here...Wonder if his Neymar ties factor into this at all...I'd be happy for him to stay even if he played less and Montoya shared the duties more...But I suppose his days at the club are approaching a close whether it's '13 or '14

I voted no. I don't think we'll manage on only Alba, Adriano and Montoya, and we've got no exciting right backs in our youth teams or in Barca B.

I don't know if we'd manage without him either but something tells me Barca will sell if the right offer comes along.

Hi, its me..
I think if PSG come in with a big amount of money they'd probably let him go, but i hope we hang onto him.

Adriano, as great as hes been, usually struggles to play 4/5 games in a row. Plus we need some backup/rotation for Alba.

Having Alves/Montoya and Alba/adriano on the other side is worth keeping hold of.

plus hes friends with neymar :tito:

Adriano is in awesome form, but he is too injury prone. Only 3 fullbacks is dangerous, Alves is needed.

Keep the Alves. Too experienced and crucial down that right flank. He and Adriano offer different types of attack and as mentioned, Adriano is quite injury prone. Montoya will eventually take over but that won't be for a while. He will play a similar minutes that Thiago does for a little while the way I see it.

I would hope so... But if only we have a replacement lined up. preferably a CB/RB ala Puyi. Since we don't seem to be too keen on signing a CB anyway, we could as well sign a versatile defender. Besides there's always the need of replacing a crucial element of the team to keep them motivated and not get complacent. Alves's departure would be the one I feel affects us the least, especially because he hasn't really been setting the world on fire the past two seasons. Also because we have an exciting prospect coming up in Montoya. And also because it would be like mirroring the attacking full-back on right, defensive minded full back on the left principle we followed the past few years.

I can think of Otamendi, Caceres, Phil Jones, Mbiwa, Howedes, Corluka, etc. that fit the bill.

IMO Mbiwa would be a fine addition

If Abidal recovers I could see a case being made for selling him and using the money to invest in a central defender since then we would have 4 full backs.

That's not gonna happen.
