I think he would still be fantastic wherever he went, however most other clubs are not like the family that Barca became for him :)

Anxiously waiting for the next match
I think he is proving with the national team (lead them to olympics and u20 final also) in this world cup that he is good anywhere..

I've wondered this before, like what would he be like if he came through Chelsea's youth system instead of Barca's?

Scary hypothetical thought.

Yeah it's a very interesting speculation... and I guess this is all assuming that any other team would have offered to pay for his GHD treatment like Barca did.

Personally I don't think that Chelsea or any EPL team for that matter could have provided the family atmosphere that Barca did for him. Messi left his home country to go to a strange new place, it was better that it was Spain (specifically Barca) than England.

It wasn't all just football football football that made Messi so great, it was also having others to turn to when his family couldn't be there. He was shy as hell, a language barrier would have made it even harder for him to find his place. Messi was too shy to even talk until they brought him a Playstation  His friendship with his coaches and with Cesc in the youth camp definitely did him well too, I don't think he would have had that rapport in England or anywhere else.

No doubt he would have been skillful anywhere, but to turn out as well as he did here somewhere else? Not so sure.

No... and why? because since his youth (at age of 13 we is a Barça player) he's a product of all Barça system... La Masia give all he need to complete his talent and I believe that only a "academy" like La Masia can suply that kind od support and development... despite all of his qualities...

Could he do a Maradona and lead a shit club like Napoli to unprecedented success?

no way not as far as a league title goes not happening in the modern game maybe a cup though but not a league (not a top league anyway)

some players succeed in some leagues but fail in others for whatever reason obviously but i believe that messi would be a smash hit in any league in the world hes just so good

as far as if he had come out of chelseas youth team he would have been stiffled and destroyed years ago if he were there they dont have the coaches to nurture that kind of talent they wouldnt know what to do with him

Who knows? Maybe yes, maybe no. Hope we never find out cos i hope he stays at Barca for the vast majority of his career (i say that because i think when the time comes, he will want the last season or two of his career at home in Argentina).

He should lead Liverpool back to glory... don't worry, I'm only joking! :p

I can't imagine him anywhere but at Barca, I'll be very sad when the day comes for him to go. He is completely irreplaceable.

Although you can never tell for sure, it strikes me that he is very happy at Barca. Cant see him going while he is still at his peak.

Yeah that's my perception too and I'm sure the perception of most people. :)

But sometimes things happen unfortunately, sometimes even against the wishes of the player. Hope that never happens regarding Messi though!
