Imo, Benzema getting injured is a huge blessing in disguise for France because Giroud unlocks Mbappe's full effectiveness and Mbappe-Grizz-Giroud have fantastic collective chemistry.

Also, in a way, it hierarchically marks Mbappe as the top dog(totally deserved) in the team and avoids potential drama and battle of egos and stuff. Mbappe is the clear cut star man. All in all, it makes France stronger.

Hope Uruguay wins. Thank goodness Luisito (best striker ever since R9 but totally washed-up for 4-5 years now) is on the bench and Cavani and Nunez start. Uruguay might have a chance.

Well no, but he is still completely useless. Cant, run, track back, hold the ball, dribble, shoot, pass, take free kicks... Penalties and headers are only thing he is able to do as of now. Andre Silva would be a much better option.

For sure. In his prime he was better than Forlan and Cavani. Godin is a defender so he doesnt really count. Of course there are always people who bring history to the table, like the fact that Uruguay has won two World Cups from 1936 (?) and 1950 and will tell you that this player and this player was better and is an all-time great. Kind of like the whole Pele conversation. No one has seen him play, he never showed his skills in Europe yet he has this myth build around him. No, players from the 50s and 60s were not better than players today. The nutrition, technical, tactical and every possible else has gone so much further.... Luis Suarez is the greatest Uruguayan player of all time and the second greatest number 9 of all time.

Tbf, Pele scored plenty against European sides, also, Brazilian league was better then compared to Europe than now, no doubt he was one of the greatest, if not the greatest of his time.

But as you point out, how does he compare to players 60 years later? Probably not well.

Yes, Suarez definitely the greatest player from Uruguay.
About the old vs new era players comparison, it really can't be made.
Each player must be compared to his era or the comparison is void and to be honest wouldn't do past players of the past any favours.
The average tactical, technical and physical level of football is so much better now compared to the 50s or even 80s that any player from that era wouldn't be able to cope for 10 minutes of a competitive match today.
