Yes, CL counts a lot. If the new guy knocks out some high level teams... that is gonna be important also.

He needs to do better against the teams Barca should be beating for a start and not going through campaigns where fall to Frankfurt etc and then having a season when only team can beat is Plzn.

That would be a starting point for improvement then compete with teams not expected to beat and take it from there.

But as said the next coach will suffer from mistakes Xavi has made in market and not have the same money as he got or even remotely close.

Could be left with a 36 yr old Lewa on huge cost to books that wont move for example. That is a noose around the neck of anyone trying to rebuild.

Frankfurt affair was with budget Barca he took from 9th place lol, when Xavi was brough midseason.

Inter, Bayern, a good United... these are the relevant bad losses. Some solid teams.

Barca had far better squad than Frankfurt.

Rangers gave Frankfurt a better game than Barca did.

Was another humiuliation to get outcoached/outplayed the way they did.

'Took from 9th' sounds better than it was. Barca had a game in hand. League had not settled with likes of Sociedad near enough top.

Barca were outside top four with game in hand with a relatively tough start to season past.

Heavy odds on for top 4 at least and not far behind Atletico etc.

Xavi doesn't demand too much lmao. He doesn't even know what to demand and gives them basic ass instructions like barking "Run" and "Press" lol.

Nothing to do with him being a great player. More to do with the fact that he's a clueless tactician and there's nobody in the coaching staff to help him with that.

You can actually judge managers when they speak about the game and tactics. Likes of Ole and Xavi sound like they are talking about a Sunday League game while Pep and Klopp say tactical stuff which you didn't even realise and are very quick to spot what's wrong and right(hence the great in-game tweaks).

The "he's a legendary player and expects too much" excuse is a load of crap. He's managing Barcelona not Burnley!

Got heavy investment in the winter market that year. Board worked overtime to get Xavi some mid-season quality in.

Auba, Traore on loan. Big money on Ferran. Even brought his mate Sticky Fingers in to show how a Barcelona fullback is meant to play. Who in there right mind is going to bring a 38 year old player to the first team at a top tier side.

So was hardly the team that was 9th with Easy E and Ilias on the wings.

No one is saying he is a master tactician

We are saying football came easily to him so it’s hard and frustrating for him to try get his ideas across to the players who are a bit slow in his eyes

An improvement would not be to win the league with good football. that would stand for last season. an improvement currently is: Be able to keep a clean sheet in a couple of games, especially against 3rd division teams. don't get dominated by lesser teams. don't get trashed by every better team every time. don't crash out from every competition in January. see an improvement and not regression in at least one player. don't find excuses for everything. don't ever use balde as a cb near the end of a game.
these are all the things I would expect the new manager to achieve in his first season to be considered successful.

Yeah that kind of thing makes sense when a legendary player coaches a lower league team.

He's coaching Barcelona FFS.

So? Frakfurt were not some scrubs either. Beat Bayern on Allianz that season if I remember correctly. One of the best teams in Bundesliga at the time. A good team.

This is actually getting embarrassing, if I'm Laporta I'd sack him right now for being a bitch - sell one of his many shit signings to finance his sacking for all I care. How on earth can we, as a club, ever hope to get back to the pinnacle of football with such a wet wipe of a manager.

Point is we weren't the same team that were 9th as you exclaimed.

Actually got a decent result away and should have progressed iirc. Instead found ourselves 3-0 down after 70 minutes. Didn't change or bring on another striker until we went 3-0 down, you know things that have proven to be usual Xavi things.

Frankfurt were midtable but decent that year in Europe. Though they didn't really get any top teams on their way to Europa League winners. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I bet they didn't even score 3 in an away game in Europe that year apart from against us.

You are making too many excuses, mate. Yeah Frankfurt won in Munich 2-1 but it was mainly luck as Bayern dominated the match but Trapp was incredible, i just checked the stats: 20 shots from Bayern and 5 from Frankfurt while in Camp Nou 15 shots from Frankfurt and 10 shots from Barca. Especially over 2 games Barca needs to win against Frankfurt.
