Midfield has ok depth. De Jong, Romeu, Gavi, Pedri, Gundogan, even Roberto is better midfielder than defender. Not many elite players there, but it's good, only 2-3 teams have better options in this area.

What we need to do is quickly get the LW and RB sorted. No more screwing around. And once that happens, Romeu has to disappear from midfield.

I'd say Xavi is a possession football conservative, like Van Gaal was. Extremely cautious in a defensive way, even if not necessarily by choice but by hesitance of taking risks and losing the ball. Pep for example takes way more risks in offense. It's why his pressing scheme was vital to his Barca team, he saw pressing as a way to allow him to take more risks in attack.

Some possession managers simply are too obssessed with control. Without a bit of chaos it's difficult to create many chances. You have to embrace a bit of unpredictability and learn to deal with it.

Take the Villareal game. Yes it was chaotic, but the good part is that we created a huge no of chances.

Looks like there's no drills to create patterns of play or attacking ideas during training.
