Speculation.

I maybe wrong but I hear this a lot. Players coming from abroad and their aggressive nature will earn them more red cards in La Liga.

Fact is, some player abroad tend to be aggressive in order to adapt or cover up a lack in certain quality.

Perhaps footballers in England are in a better shape which makes Mascherano take more risks and goes for absurd tackles but in Spain he does not need to. His reading of the game is very good and that will compensate or work for him better in a less aggressive league.
